 Autumn Term Issue 2
It has been my privilege to  welcome a large number of visitors to school during this half-term. Shortly after term began we welcomed over 120 Year Five pupils from the primary schools in our catchment area. It is a real treat to witness the energy and enthusiasm these young visitors bring to the school and it’s great to hear from their parents and teachers that we are helping to raise their aspirations and to think more positively about senior school options.

In late September we welcomed 223 families during Open Week; they came from near and far with our furthest travelling visitor attending from Abu Dhabi! Our Year Eight and Year Nine pupils seemed to greatly enjoy showing the visitors around and were wonderful ambassadors for the school. The Upper Sixth pupils who spoke to the assembled parents and their sons all had a varied and interesting take on their time at Adams’ which they obviously enjoyed sharing with the visitors.

During October we welcomed a slightly different group of visitors - members of the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers on their annual deputation. As well as spending time talking to the senior leadership team, they also met with numerous members of staff and pupils. The Haberdashers continue to have a very close association with the school and their annual deputation has been taking place since the school was founded over 350 years ago, making it a great link with the past which is highly valued by everyone involved.

We have recently started our programme of Sixth Form Open Afternoons which will take place most Tuesdays between now and early February. The new pupils we welcome into the Lower Sixth make an invaluable contribution to school life and it is always interesting to see their reaction to the school and the information we provide. I am confident that in 2017 we will welcome yet another new group of pupils eager to take advantage of the many opportunities given to them in the Sixth Form.

Looking ahead to half-term, I wish our musicians all the best with their visit to Melbourne. This is the second time they are visiting Ringwood Secondary School to join their extraordinarily talented performers on their performing arts tour. After half-term the whole school will have a performing arts focus as we prepare for Dixon Cup, which is always a wonderful occasion in the school calendar. I look forward to seeing you there.
