Elastic Arts is proud to present Triangulating Distances, a group show in conjunction with ACRE’s summer residency program. The exhibition features Alejandro Jimenez-Flores, Johana Moscoso, Mary Tremonte, Sharmyn Cruz Rivera + nibia pastrana santiago, curated by Jordan Martins. It runs from September 10th through November 13th, viewable during all of Elastic’s events and by appointment.
Tenor saxophonist Jake Wark and pianist/keyboardist Javier Resendiz come together to create a duo aesthetic that emphasizes melodic sensitivity within an experimental framework, while the regular trio of Keefe Jackson, Jim Baker, and Julian Kirshner makes its Thursday night series debut.
Visiting artist MT leads a great quartet of Chicago improvisers. Cincinnati-based Animal Mother returns to the Anagram Series as part of a tour of the Midwest.
Cyrus Pireh is performing solo, touring in support of his latest release. Matt / Adam / Elliot will play simple scores for complex results. Fastness opens.
Frode Gjerstad returns to Chicago for his yearly trio outing, but this time with a twist, as cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm fills in for regular percussionist Paal Nilssen-Love to make this a string-heavy evening.
Double-reedist and former Chicagoan Kyle Bruckmann makes a rare visit from the Bay Area to team up with some Chicago collaborators, while up-and-coming drummer Phil Sudderberg debuts a new ensemble.
LA trumpeter Dan Clucas leads a quartet featuring some of Chicago’s finest inside/outside musicians. French flautist Sylvaine Hélary visits Elastic with her ensemble Spring Roll, whose music is a a hybrid of sound poetry, theater and political manifesto.
The longstanding duo of pianist Paul Giallorenzo and clarinetist Guillermo Gregorio returns to the Elastic stage for a rare appearance, while British trumpet player Raland Romanan makes his Chicago debut, convening two stalwarts of the Chicago improvised music scene as collaborators for this first time meeting.
