The Boswells School welcomes six times British judo champion

Six times British judo champion Theo Spalding Mackintosh has visited The Boswells School through the Sky Sports Living for Sport project.

The school is running the project for a fourth year.

The initiative has given more than 200 students access to high quality sessions with professional sportsmen and women such as Jeanette Kwakye (100m Olympian), JJ Jegede (British and European Long Jump champion), Rachel Laybourne (Volleyball Olympian), Mike Mullen (Two time BMX World Champion) and Jonny Wilkinson (Rugby World Cup winner).

This time selected Year 7 students were given the opportunity based on either excellent extra-curricular club attendance, having an excellent attitude towards PE lessons or because they are helpful and friendly around the department.

As always the session began with Theo’s story and Sky’s 6 Keys to Success followed by numerous fun team-building games where the students pitted their abilities against each other to see who could emerge as the winners.

PE teacher Callum Ridgway said: "We are fortunate that we always access such good, professional mentors from the Sky Sports Living for Sport project and again we were lucky with Theo.

"He put on an excellent session for the students which challenged them to work as a team to achieve their goals in the day’s activities whilst still thinking about what they needed to do individually to reach the higher levels of their respective sports."

Theo will be back at school in December to complete the second part of the annual project.
