Happy October
WVHIMA Heroes!
WVHIMA has been very active, and October will be just as busy! The Northern WVHIMA Fall Retreat held at Fairmont State College, Fairmont was a great success. We had around 65 attendees with five participating vendors, along with great speakers and networking. The Southern WVHIMA Fall Retreat will be Friday October 7 in Charleston. The registration numbers are slow coming in, so please register early. Lunch is provided by Harmony Healthcare.
AHIMA Annual Convention in Baltimore featuring WVHIMA's own hero Melissa Martin, RHIA, CCS, CHTS- IM as AHIMA President and Chair as master of sessions is quickly approaching, October 16-19. There are great speakers and session topics lined up. I know this because I am on the AHIMA Convention Planning Committee and we had a hard time narrowing down the offerings. What a great experience that is! I hope that you all are planning to attend the convention. Let us know that you are attending! With the convention location being so close, we hope you will be able to come. The Delegates, Megan McDougal, Jamie Anderson, Nelson Liston, and myself are participating in webinars preparing for the House of Delegates on Sunday, October 15, at 7:30 am – 4:30 pm prior to the convention. I will be doing a Virtual HOD Hero 5K run that morning as well!
The House of Delegate agenda includes the breakout sessions for HIM Re-Imagined, Multigenerational Workforce, Patient Generated Health Data Communication in the HOD, and Regulatory Impact on the Profession. The Board and CEO will present their Annual Reports, as well as the introduction of the 2017 AHIMA Strategy. There will be additional presentations and discussion about future strategy, procedures, protocols, and open forum of any house floor issues. You may come to the HOD and sit in the observatory section if you like. The delegates will put together a report out blast to you after the convention.
I am still enjoying the outdoors, and I am still doing my 5K races, and in many locations as far north as New York in my Uncles’ Vineyard, and as far south as Florida to my friends home, and several points in between. In fact, I ran this past Sunday, October 2 in Parkersburg for the Pink Cupcake 5K for Breast Care Awareness Month. This was my 15th Race since July 1, 2016.
The picture this month is me running my first 8K Mountain Momma (5 miles) in Morgantown. And YES, there were hills, and one that I am sure became a mountain during the race. If you recall from one of my previous August messages, I hinted to a “HERO STEP Challenge” in the month of October. I am working with Knowledge Connex to make that a reality. During the month of October, every HERO who signs up to participate will register online for $15.00, and then during the month of October, the challenge is to track your steps and log them weekly for incentives and recognition at the
Annual Convention Hero Convention, April 19-21 at Oglebay.
- Everyone who registers, you will receive $10 off WVHIMA Convention Registration.
- If you log over 140,000 steps for the month (average of 4500 steps per day), you will receive $15.00 off WVHIMA Convention Registration.
- If you log over 200,000 steps for the month (average of 6500 steps per day), you will received $20.00 off WVHIMA Convention Registration.
- There will be awards for the Virtual Hero October Step Challenge at the Annual Hero Convention on various achievements.
- There will be a 5K Hero Race held at Oglebay on the morning of April 19th to kick off our convention.
The Board is working very hard on several initiatives, providing great educational opportunities, using technology to our advantage, as well as updating bylaws, procedures, and being very budget conscious so that the membership reaps the benefits.
As a side note, there will be some great HERO fun at the convention, and since Halloween is a great time for costumes, I would HIGHLY suggest to think about how you can best represent the HERO in you at the vendors reception on April 19th. Additional Incentives for best HERO representatives and more fun to come! STAY TUNED!!!
Hope to see you in BALTIMORE!
