“If I had a magic wand, I wouldn’t want so much judgment placed upon me as a child of an incarcerated parent.” –Sky
The Osborne Association and the New York Initiative for Children of Incarcerated Parents invite you to join SEE US, SUPPORT US, a month-long campaign to uphold the rights of children of incarcerated parents. Despite the fact that 1 in 28 children in the U.S. has an incarcerated parent, most systems and individuals working with children are unaware of how this issue affects children and families. The stigma of having an incarcerated parent keeps children and families invisible and prevents them from accessing supports and services, including accessing each other for support. You can support these children by learning more about the effects of a parent’s incarceration on children and actively offering nonjudgmental support (referrals, resources, visits, and more) to children and their families.
