Volunteer Coordinator's Thoughts
Greetings everyone.  Over the next two months, I look forward to visiting with you and your seniors in action.  The Como Park Falcon Heights Living at Home Block Nurse Program is held responsible by the state, the county, and a small amount of private donations.  This enables our program to have a staff of five part-time employees that operate on a budget of less than $110,000 a year, serving more than 350 people a year.

We each wear multiple hats, and with-out your efforts in the homes and yards or helping with staff support, we could not be this successful in our capacity to serve so many.  It is important for me as the coordinator to make sure your relationships with the seniors are going well and that you are also feeling adequately supported by our program.  It is also important that you as a volunteer are given an opportunity to meet the others who serve our program and that we can enrich your volunteerism with education.

We cancelled the volunteer dinner that was scheduled for this September as the majority of you could not make this date, so we will be sending out three new dates for you to pick from, and the majority of responses will determine the new date for the dinner.  This will be scheduled before the influx of holiday celebrations.  It is important for me as your coordinator to meet with you, as I can then adjust my programming/opportunities based on your feedback.  Your feedback is valued and necessary to ensure that the program continues to function and hold best practices in your time spent volunteering.  I encourage you to think about the reason(s) you volunteer and to share them with me as we move forward together.

I can only thank you so much.  It is in your time spent with another that the true value of your energy is given return and appreciation.
Community Outreach
Our program is in need of three volunteers.  Do you have people in your network who are looking for a volunteer opportunity to be a friend to a senior, to take them out and about?  We are looking for volunteers who can give one day a week/biweekly, 2 hours a visit.  Each one of these individuals is absolutely wonderful, and all they need is a friend to help them get out in the world. The visits are usually going to the grocery store, a simple day time program at the Falcon Heights Town Hall, out to lunch, or going to the library.  Please refer us to your networks in this capacity if you know people who are looking to serve an organization, but in reality a grandparent.  They can contact Leann at 651-642-1127 or comovolunteerwellness@gmail.com.
