This is the second of four wonderful fall announcements:

     NEW GALLERY REPRESENTATION IN NYC

We are pleased to announce that Monika Bravo has joined the roster of represented artists at Johannes Vogt Gallery. Bravo is a multi-disciplinary artist and was born in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1964. She studied fashion design in Rome and Paris as well as photography in London and New York. She has been living in New York since 1994. Bravo's first solo show with the gallery is scheduled for January 2017.

Bravo’s practice encompasses photography, sculpture, installation, video, and animation. Her interest and knowledge of the history and tradition of fashion and fabrics permeate her  sensorial body of work stressing the importance of time, process, and craft.

Bravo’s inclusion in the Vatican Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2015 marks a recent milestone in the artist’s career. Her installation Arche-Types: The sound of the Word is beyond Sense combined sound and video with wall bound work groupings that have recently led to a new body of work titled “Bild-Objekt”. Simultaneously the artist has been working on digital animations that are based on musical compositions. Color and form enter a dialogue with time in this new series.

Another significant project that dates to 2014 is pictured below. Urumu (Weaving_Time) is an immersive video installation that envelops the viewer in imagery that is reminiscent of software coding while also alluding to the weaving process of textiles. It was shown in Waterweavers: The River in Contemporary Colombian Visual and Material Culture, a traveling exhibition that was curated by José Roca with Alejandro Martín and shown at the Bard Graduate Center Gallery, The Art Museum of the Americas, Washington D.C. and at the  Centro Cultural Conde Duque in Madrid, Spain.

Bravo’s digital installations can be seen in public spaces around the world including the University of Texas at Austin, the Tom BradleyTerminal in LAX Airport and the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong. Her most recent commission includes an installation for the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. She has exhibited at numerous art and cultural institutions including the Sternesen Museum in Oslo, Borusan Contemporary in Istanbul, SITE Santa Fe and the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, with video screenings at MOMA, the Brooklyn Museum, Museo di Arte Contemporaneo in Rome, MOCA in Los Angeles and the Tate Britain. Current and upcoming exhibitions of Bravo’s work can be seen at the 60 Wall Gallery of Deutsche Bank in New York, Von Bartha Gallery in Basel, Switzerland and the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York.

Bravo will be featured in the upcoming compendium "Contemporary Art: Colombia" edited by Hossein Amirsadeghi and Catherine Petitgas, Thames & Hudson, to be released early 2017, next to artists such as Doris Salcedo and Oscar Munoz, among others.
