Training in Rural Uganda
" Meet Jane the Pastor"
My name is Jane Mukisa. I was born in 1959 therefore I am 57 years old. I stay in Butuulo, Mawokota County, Mpigi District. I am a farmer. I grow yams and also make handcrafts. I pray at Butuulo Living Gospel Church, pastored by Pastor Katongole Vincent. I have one child, a boy, whom God gave me. I do not have a husband.. Before I got saved, I had gotten a husband in a way that was not right.  My husband was a Muslim. In 1989 when I got saved, he had many wives of which I was not his first.. The Bible says that you will know the Truth and the Truth will make you free. To this end, I realized that I could not do the righteous work of God amongst four or multiple wives. In 1990, I decided to wait on God.
God called me into ministry in 1993 and I started serving as an assistant Pastor in 1998. We began ministry without any guidance on how to use the Bible. We relied on the guidance of the Holy Spirit to teach us. While I served, I used not to understand some scriptures. For instance, if I found a difficult word while reading a verse, I would simply pass over it and not give it any attention.

Around 2004, I started the Veritas (Equipping To Serve) training when World Vision connected us. When we heard about the Training, we felt the need to be involved as members in the community. I felt strongly that my calling was to teach. I wanted to study and understand the Bible and not simply read through. However, we didn’t make much progress and the Training stopped. We had finished the book but had not understood. Later, Pastor Godfrey Ntale encouraged us and we started the training again. Pastor Godfrey continued to encourage us and we in turn, understood more and more. I don't remember exactly when this was but probably around 2009.

The Impact...
I learnt that I needed to first understand the difficult words because those words could have an important message. While preaching, one cannot simply pass over words therefore it is important to understand the difficult words to enable the audience understand as well. This is something I got to learn that I did not have before the Veritas Training. I have realized that the Veritas Training helped me to understand the Scriptures more. Often we never paid attention to the details such as the authors, but we were referring to everyone speaking in the Scriptures as God. This helped me as a teacher, and encouraged me to continue learning and teach others.

I went ahead to become a facilitator because I wanted to teach others so that they learn, and are able to also teach other people. This is because the years are catching up with me, so I would like for others to rise up so that I can know that there are some whom I was also able to teach and they can also teach others.I have facilitated two classes so far. The first group already received their certificates. I have completed the second class and they are preparing to receive their certificates. I was particularly taught in Luganda and I too, facilitate in Luganda.

Praise God!!!

In Uganda, the phrase 'Praise God' has become a way of greeting to which we respond 'Amen'. Veritas College Uganda continues to give thanks and praise to God for the training that has been happening over the last quarter of the financial year. Though the financial year started with a few changes in staff, training strategy and administration, God has kept the ministry going strong. Translation of module one participant Handbook from English to Runyakitara (Runyankole/Rukiga, Western and south western Uganda dialect) was completed bringing the number of local language translations to seven. The fact that the Veritas 'Equipping to serve' Modules are available in local languages has enabled thousands of people to learn more about Bible interpretation, preach, teach and serve confidently in their churches and communities. We are grateful to God for all the prayer, technical and financial support that continues to make this possible. Praise God Indeed!!!
