SCHOOL BUS CAMPAIGN UPDATE

As you know, Global Samaritans has been raising funds to obtain a vehicle to transport children to day school in nearby Livingstone, thus eliminating the need for the children to go off to boarding school for grades 10-12. As of October 1, there is almost enough money in the fund to obtain the vehicle. In order to be good stewards of your donations, the decision was made to purchase a sturdy and dependable 4-wheel drive vehicle instead of a traditional school bus. This vehicle will have capacity for all of the children who will need to be taken to Livingstone daily.

There is still time for you to donate toward this important goal. Because of your generosity, the children will soon be able to complete grades 1-12 while living at Global Samaritans Children's Home.

Thank you for giving!

Global Samaritans Goes to School!
In June, a team made up of Global Samaritans intern Hannah Isbell (left, above) and mission team members Emily Kelley (middle) and Katelyn Davis (right) made a huge impact at the nearby Sons of Thunder School when they served as volunteers there. Sons of Thunder School provides grade 1-7 instruction for both the children of Global Samaritans Children's Home and students from the surrounding villages. Among their duties, Hannah, Emily, and Katelyn helped the school's teachers prepare for an upcoming government visit as well as cleaned out and organized various teachers’ bookshelves. As intern, Hannah had the opportunity to continue working at the school for several more weeks. Her main task was tutoring grade 6 students who struggle with English.

Hannah says that she became interested in Sons of Thunder School when she first visited Global Samaritans Children's Home four years ago. "A few of my favorite things about getting to serve at Sons of Thunder were walking to school with [Global Samaritans Children's Home residents] Peter, Gideon, and Lawrence after tutoring them in the mornings, getting to listen to the Bible studies Sons of Thunder does each Monday, sharing my testimony and the gospel alongside Emily and Katelyn, and lastly, just getting to know my students." Hannah adds that her time at the Sons of Thunder School was a great experience. "[I]t taught me various ways to share the gospel. For instance, while tutoring, I wrote out various Bible verses and gave one to each child and had them read it in a certain order, then I went on to share the gospel with them."

There are many ways that you and your group can serve in Zambia. Maybe you want to help with a school like Hannah, Emily, and Katelyn. Maybe village ministry is more in line with your abilities. Perhaps you are interested in raising money where you live to provide a well and then traveling to the Zambian village where the well is installed. Global Samaritans can help arrange any of these ministries and more. Click here to find out more about planning your own mission trip to Zambia!

Great Music and a Great Cause!
The fifth annual Concert at the Corry House to benefit Global Samaritans Children's Home was held on Friday, September 22 and it was another smashing success! Those who attended ate delicious food and enjoyed the sounds of Reggie Jarrard and the Oconee Rhythm Section. A fun time was had by all who were there.

More importantly, more than $8,000 was raised. This money will be used to care for the children of Global Samaritans.

Make plans now to attend next year's concert. Also, be on the lookout for information about other fundraisers. Even better, you and your church group, club, or other organization can plan your own fundraiser and help support the Global Samaritans Children's Home and the people of Zambia. One band held its own concert to raise money for a well in a Zambian village. A church children's group raised money for shoes for the children of Global Samaritans. URGENT NEED FOR WATER!
As Zambia nears the end of the second year of its historic drought, the need for water has become desperate. One effect of the drought has been the lack of sufficient electricity since Zambia produces most of its electricity from hydroelectric power stations. In addition, crops are failing, the value of the Zambian currency (the kwacha) is falling, and people are struggling to provide food and water for their families. Reuters News Service recently published an article about how some Zambians are even being forced into prostitution to make ends meet because of the drought's effect.

Global Samaritans has been on the front-lines of this struggle by providing wells to remote villages who before had no access to clean water. Our well-drilling crew has been busy, traveling from village to village and boring wells. However, the crew cannot do it alone.

Your group can stand with Global Samaritans by doing a couple of things:
  • First, pray for rain. Pray for God to refill Zambia's reservoirs and replenish the country's land.
  • Second, your group can help by raising money to provide a well. For only $5,000, you can have the satisfaction of knowing that you helped to provide clean drinking water for the men, women, and children of a Zambian village.
