From the President's Boat
We have various rules in place to ensure that every member is afforded a fair chance in our Members Only Contest and the chance to win the North Metro Chapters replica mount. At the end of the day it boils down to the HONOR and INTEGRITY of every member. A great example of this is a recent situation where by NMMI Member Brad Patterson caught and released a 54.75” fish while fishing alone on Lake Minnetonka. This fish put Brad in the lead to win our Chapter mount. Later it was noticed that pictures of this fish based on its unique tail were very similar to a fish caught weeks earlier by guide Dan Altman that was measured at 54”. In the excitement of landing this fish, based on a close up look at the pictures of the fish on the bump board, it appeared that the hinge on Brad’s board may have not completely flat resulting in a possible longer measurement. No one would have known and at the end of the day. An honest error by Brad when trying to land a fish alone in a channel with 7 boats waiting to get through and other factors. After looking over all the facts and pictures, Brad submitted a request to me to have his fish reclassified to 54” not only to ensure that it was recorded correctly but also to make sure that it did not take away from any other member’s chances to win the mount. Hat’s off to Brad for demonstrating the Honor and Integrity of being a North Metro Member.

The end of the Minnesota season is fast approaching but there is still time to land that fish of lifetime. The best of luck to everyone.
Thanks to everyone that participated, did their homework to be informed citizens on the issues and that Exercised their right to VOTE in the November General Election for the best candidate. There is now a new representative Cal Bahr in District 31B that includes East Bethel, Ham Lake, Linwood, Columbus Townships and parts of Oak Grove and Andover that should listen and make informed logical decisions regarding the Minnesota fisheries.
October speaker TV Show Host and Guide Adam Glickman’s presentation on river fishing for muskies was extremely educational, entertaining and one every member would have enjoyed. All of us in attendance learned a lot of new information and wish he could have spoken even longer. We will definitely have Adam back in the future.

MN DNR Updates on St Croix Tracking & Metro Stocking Studies presented by Joel Stiras, East Metro DNR and Kristan Maccaroni, West Metro DNR Fisheries Offices
The Lake St Croix Telemetry Study that includes Muskellunge tracking and the Metro Tagging Study
These are always very interesting and informative presentations that we look forward to every year. This year there is even more data than before on fish movements and survival rates.
Joel grew up in Brooklyn Park and obtained a degree from Bemidji State University. Joel currently is responsible for monitoring the fish populations of the area's major rivers and assisting in operation of the cool water hatchery.
During the field season, Kristan spawns muskies, does population assessments, and stocks fish. During the winter she ages fish, writes survey reports, and mends nets.
