Latest funding opportunities

Commissioned workstream
We currently have funding opportunities open in the following topic areas.
  • 16/39 - Mid-life and physical exercise
  • 16/40 - Preventing road injuries
  • 16/41 - Sedentary behaviour
  • 16/50 - Sun exposure
The application deadline for the above topics is 1pm, 5 December 2016.
  • 16/121 - Healthy diet in early years
  • 16/122 - Interventions in community organisations
  • 16/123 - Migrant health and wellbeing
  • 16/124 - Age-friendly environments
The application deadline for the above topics is 1pm, 25 April 2017.

Researcher-led workstream
We are accepting outline applications to our researcher-led workstream. Applications must be within the remit of the PHR Programme.

NIHR committed to push the pace of research
It takes on average 17 years for a promising medicine, being developed in a laboratory to being patient ready, and we think that around 10 years of this is within the NIHR research pathway. No evidence of reduction in accidents following M74 motorway extension
Research published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health suggests that there has been no impact on the number of road accidents following the extension of the M74 in the south of Glasgow. Read the full article.
Revised DH contract will benefit researchers and patients
The Department of Health (DH) and the Health Research Authority (HRA) have been working together to review the standard DH contract for NIHR funded research. From today research funded by an NIHR research programme will be able to receive payments for start-up in advance of ethical approval. This enables more rapid, efficient and streamlined set-up of research and quicker translation of research into patient benefit. Read the full article.

Free event to support funding applications
The NIHR is running a free event in Durham to help researchers submit successful funding applications. It will take place on Tuesday 29 November.

The event will provide an overview of the NIHR and its funding programmes and offer hints and tips on how to make a successful application. It will also highlight the support available within the NIHR and provide an opportunity to discuss individual project ideas with NIHR advisers. Read more information and sign-up.
