Fall Sermon Series

Who are your neighbors?  Do you know them?  What does it mean to be a good neighbor?  What happens when you don't see eye to eye?  Join us this Sunday as Rev. Troy Tatum preaches a new series of sermons on community, connections, and what it means to love our neighbor, even when it is hard to do.

Sign Up Today!

We invite you and your family to join us on Saturday, October 15 for a day of service to our community. Opportunities to serve are available for all ages. At 8 AM we will gather at the church for breakfast and communion, and then head out to our worksites at the Lovelady Center, First Light Shelter, and Workshops, Inc. Go to www.fcc-bhm.org to sign up today.

Faith Foundations Groups Now Underway

Faith Foundations is a series of small group experiences designed to help you grow closer to God and to one another. Right now we are offering one session of Joyful Generosity (FF3), and one session of Intro to Discipleship (FF1).  Intro to Discipleship meets on Wednesday evenings, and Joyful Generosity meets on Sunday evenings.  If you weren't able to sign up for a fall group, don't worry: we'll offer additional groups this spring.

Faith Matters, a new Sunday morning class for adults and older youth, meets each week at 9 AM in Room 205 upstairs.  Troy Tatum and Robin Blakemore will take turns leading this discussion-oriented class, working through a new topic every four to six weeks.  If you are not currently involved in a Sunday morning small group, we hope you will give Faith Matters a try!

"STITCHES AND STUFF"
Friday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m.
"Stitches and Stuff" will next meet Friday, October 21 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fireside room.  Please bring a sack lunch.

If you have a knitting or sewing project or if you just want some good fellowship...all are welcome to join us!
Congregational Meeting Set for Oct. 23
We will have a congregational meeting after worship on Sunday, October 23.  The primary purpose of this meeting will be to consider changes to our governing documents.  Please click here for more information about these proposed changes and the agenda for the congregational meeting.
TUESDAY MORNING LADIES BIBLE STUDY
The Ladies Bible Study meets in the Farkas Room on Tuesday mornings at 10 AM for study, fellowship, and service.  Each week we fill our Backpack Buddy Bags for Vincent Elementary students, and spend time in discussion.  This fall we are studying A Year of Biblical Womanhood by Rachel Held Evans.  On October 18, we will discuss Chapter 7 (April).  We would love for you to join us!
TAN FALL FESTIVAL
Thursday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m.

Dear Church Family,

We are really getting excited about our Fall Festival.  We are going to have an appearance by a local celebrity.  He is the Birmingham Barons’ very own Babe Ruff! He will be here to walk among the crowds and have pictures made with the children, or adults if they would like! The Birmingham Barons are also donating a goody bag of “tiny merchandise” and a certificate for 4 free tickets! This is just one example of the wonderful items available for you to win at our raffle.

We hope you will consider attending! It is on Thursday, October 27 at 6:00.  Mack will be making his (almost) world famous spaghetti and all the trimmings.  I know you do not want to miss the good food and fun! I will leave some reservation forms in the front office with Chris.

One last item about the Fall Festival, we are still in needs of volunteers to help serve the food.  If available and willing, please let me know.

Thanks for all your love and support for T.A.N.
May God Bless You!
Debbie

Join us Sunday evenings from 5:00 - 6:30 pm.  Activities for ages 3 years - 5th grade include music, games, stories, and crafts. We are working on our Christmas musical, "The Christmas Present," and we'd love for you to sing with us!
Join us Sundays from 5:00-7:00 pm for 6th -12th grade. Each week we'll share supper, games, bible study, conversation, and faith!
HOW CAN YOU HELP? GLAD YOU ASKED...
Our students are excited about the opportunity to spend time together and grow in their faith as they learn to follow Jesus more fully. And we all know it just wouldn't be the same without food, right? We would appreciate it if you would consider signing up for a meal one week. We are using sign-up genius to help track each week and we think it will make everything simpler. All you have to do is click the link below for a list of available dates, choose one that works for you and sign up. You're welcome to team up with others, just choose a point person to sign up. Please remember, if you would like to be reimbursed, save your receipts and give them to Donnette Mee or Robin Blakemore and we'll make sure you get a check. Also, you can apply those receipts to your giving statement if you'd like to make it a tax deduction.

Check out the schedule and sign up here.

If you have questions please contact Robin.
CARING & SHARING
Tuesday, October 25
Charlie Thigpen's Garden Gallery

It's time to put our October meeting on your calendar.  We will learn about  "Fall into Winter Planting" with Cindy and Charlie Thigpen at the beautiful Charlie Thigpen's Garden Gallery at  Pepper Place, 2805 2nd Ave. So., B'ham, AL 35233 on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

You can come to the church to carpool at 11:15 or join us for Bible study at 10:00 if you can.  We will leave at 11:30 to  travel to iCantina Tortilla Grill (see their web site for yummy menu) at Pepper Place.

We plan to be at Charlie's for "class" at 1:45.  You may join us there if you don't want to carpool or eat.

Hope you will come as we meet together to learn about the beauty around us in God's amazing creation.

Please respond to Kathey Long with your plans and if you can or cannot attend.  This will help to know how many to expect in the group for class and for lunch.  Don't want to leave anyone "waitin' at the church"!
Now Hiring
First Christian Church is actively seeking to fill two staff positions.  We are searching for an additional paid nursery worker for Sunday mornings. Interested applicants should contact Robin Blakemore.  We are also searching for a music director.  More information about the music director position, including how to apply, is available here.
