Using the fingers on your hand, start with the thumb and pray these intentions in this order:
  1. The thumb is closest finger to you. So start praying for those who are closest to you. They are the persons easiest to remember.
  2. The next finger is the index. Pray for those who teach you, instruct you and heal you.
  3. The following finger is the tallest. It reminds us of our leaders, the governors and those who have authority.
  4. The fourth finger is the ring finger. Even though it may surprise you, it is our weakest finger. It should remind us to pray for the weakest, the sick or those plagued by problems.
  5. And finally we have our smallest finger, the smallest of all. Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself.

Community Connection to the Classroom
Teachers are seeking parents and alumni with expertise and a willingness to engage with students in the classroom. Keep watching this section of the Knightly News for opportunities to volunteer to share your passion, excitement and professional experience.

  1. Are you a carpenter, baker, architect, artist, or one of the other many professionals who uses math to create? One of the junior high math classes is looking for BSM parents or alumni members who use math on a daily basis to come in and showcase just how important math is in their profession. Interested? Please contact Kristin Gilbertson.
BSM Insight Program
The Insight Workshop is an early intervention, prevention group for students who may be struggling with alcohol and/or drug use issues. Participation has been successful for a large majority of teens to motivate and identify healthy and responsible choices. Through group discussions, exercises and guest speakers the workshop addresses ways for students to direct their life without alcohol and drug use, to find healthier social outlets, to learn positive decision making tools, problem solving skills and increase self- awareness.

The BSM Insight Program was developed by the Chemical Health Department to meet the sanctions for alcohol and drug policy violations. When a violation has occurred, students meet with the alcohol and drug counselor for an assessment and recommendations. Participation with the Insight Workshop is expected.

The Insight Workshop meets quarterly throughout the year. Our first quarter workshop meets October 29, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in room 109. We are inviting all students who have a need to address chemical health problems to participate in the workshop. If you know a student who may benefit from participation in the program, please refer them to Gayle Knopik, LADC. She can be reached at (651) 329-2404.

Student Directory
Student directories will be distributed in homeroom Thursday, October 13. One directory per family will be provided. Students will be instructed to bring their directory home to their parent/guardian. Please check with your student to receive your directory.

Grandparents' Day Photos
Thank you to all grandparents and Red Knight families for coming together to share and celebrate such a special day. For those who took a professional photo in the Haben Center, those photos will be mailed to you. We did have a staff member walking around snapping photos as well, click here to see photos of this year's Grandparents' Day.

Snap a Photo!
Is your student going back to their grade school or middle school? Maybe visiting teachers, volunteering, or picking up siblings? If so, the Admissions Office would love your help. Have your Red Knight take a picture or quality selfie next to a sign or landmark at their school and send to our Associate Director of Admissions, Sam Savoie. The picture may end up on part of the BSM website!

Fall Musical - The Addams Family
The musical, The Addams Family features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. Come meet the family. Performances are October 27, 28 & 29 at 7 p.m. and October 30 at 2 p.m. Adults are $10, students and seniors $6. Children 5 and under are free! Purchase your tickets here

Freshmen will hear a panel from “Teen Challenge” about alcohol/drug use and abuse. Sophomores will hear a panel from “Minnesotans for Safe Driving” encouraging them to drive without distractions. Juniors and Seniors will hear a panel from "Minnesotans for Safe Driving" about the devastating effects of driving under the influence. Ask your son or daughter about what they heard today.

Parents of Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors

For Parents of Seniors
The College Financial Aid program for parents of seniors is Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m. in the BSM Theater. Jeron Schmidt, Associate Director for Admissions at Northland College will be leading the presentation. He will discuss the financial aid process, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and CSS Profile forms, and sources to help pay for college.

For Parents of Freshmen
The transition to senior high is an important and exciting time in the life for freshmen. The guidance counselor’s role is to help support your student in that transition both academically and socially. The counselors will be meeting individually with every ninth grade student in November, and they will invite you to attend that meeting as well. Your attendance is welcome and encouraged, but not required. The counselors should have sent you an email with information about these meetings. The counselors are available to you throughout the school year through email, telephone or in person meetings. Click here for contact information.

This is a signature learning experience for students, and we welcome parents to sit as audience members during their student's speech. Ask your 8th grade student about it today!
