Warm Winter Greetings 

Hi Everyone,

This is my first newsletter as the new Programme Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and I am thoroughly enjoying my time so far. What a fantastic organisation - I am heartened every day to hear of the fantastic work our mentors are doing with children in need in the local community. 

It has been a busy few months with a number of fundraisers. Our annual Charity Dinner and Fundraising Auction generously sponsored by Port Nelson raised nearly $40,000. We had a sausage sizzle in conjunction with a DVD sale at United Video Nelson, and we also held a Quiz night last week - thank you to all who attended and supported these events. 

We have also held a number of events for our Mentors and their 'Little's' - Roller Skating, Croquet, and we have a Christmas BBQ and Sandcastle Building Competition next weekend. Mentors and Mentees have also been able to make the most of some great deals on community events - A Mako's rugby game, tickets to the Sound of Music production coming up, and tickets to the A&P Show. Thank you to all of these organisations for their support. 

We are looking forward to celebrating our amazing volunteers at the Annual Volunteer Recognition Evening in December. 

We thank our dedicated staff, mentors and the fabulous community we live in. Add to that our amazing Cornerstone Sponsors who offer huge support to our organisation, our regular donors, funders and other sponsors who make a real difference with grants big and small. Every bit makes a difference to a child’s life and we thank you for it!

Annual Charity Dinner and     Fundraising Auction 

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Annual Fundraising Dinner and Auction which is generously sponsored by Port Nelson raised nearly $40,000 for the mentor programme.

The fundraiser is paramount to our longevity and success.

"It's the little children that we support – seeing their little faces sparkle, their eyes sparkle, their little faces light up when they see you,

"They love having someone in their lives and it makes a difference. It gives them the opportunity to aspire to different things that they might not otherwise know about and they are just so appreciative.

"It's lovely to make a difference in a child's life."

A huge thank you to everyone involved we really appreciate all that you do.

Quiz Night!

 Mike and Spencer's Inspiring Story

Mike and Spencer visited Village Cycles to hopefully purchase a second hand bike for Spencer, which he had been saving hard for.
The amazing Andy at Village Cycles along with Spencer’s family and Mentor all pulled together to make this happen and as you can see by the photo they had one very happy boy!!
They then headed straight to the BMX track at Tahunanui beach to try it out.
Spencer loved this activity and when they got back to his place Mike showed Spencer how to clean it and get it back to looking brand new.
This resulted in a very excited Mentor and Mentee!!!
