HOMECOMING WEEKEND
Friday, October 14 & Saturday, October 15
Homecoming Weekend is a time for the Long Trail community, both current and alumni, to come together to celebrate school spirit.  Don your red and white and come out to support LTS!

Friday
All day Color Wars - show your school pride by wearing red or white.  Let's see which color is the winner!
12:05 pm Pep rally during to recognize all of the sports teams.
Saturday
9:00 am Brunch for the boys and girls varsity soccer teams in the Whalen Common Room.
11:00 am Boys varsity soccer vs. Fair Haven with halftime celebration of the senior players.
12:30 pm Announcement of Homecoming King and Queen
1:00 pm Girls varsity soccer vs. Fair Haven with halftime celebration of the senior players.
1:00 pm Alumni Reunion: lunch in the library, mini classes, alumni vs. varsity soccer game, appetizers and drinks at Dorset Rising.
8:00 - 10:00 pm - Upper school semi-formal dance at LTS

ACADEMICS
10TH GRADE EXCHANGE 
We are excited to welcome the first round of 10th grade exchange students! 9 students and their chaperone arrive from Barcelona on Sunday to spend two weeks with their American host families.  They will attend classes and explore Vermont while here.

STUDENT LIFE

GRADE LEVEL TRIP DEPOSITS DUE OCTOBER 15
We offer an optional annual grade level trip for students in grades 6-10.  Information on each trip was in the Back-to-School Night folders and can also be found online.  Deposits for students wishing to participate in the trips are due by October 15 as follows:

  • Grades 6 & 7 to NYC: $50
  • Grade 8 to Montreal, CN: $50
  • Grade 9 to Washington, DC: $50
  • Grade 10 to Germany and Spain: $100
Checks should be made payable to Long Trail School and handed in to Kim Murphy.
 
JISP
Long Trail needs parent drivers for JISP at Bromley this winter.  Drivers receive discounted passes.
Bromley is looking for high school students interested in being JISP instructors. Instructors receive free passes.

GREAT ESCAPE FRIGHT FEST TRIP
All tickets have been sold and the bus is full for Fright Fest on Sat., Oct. 22.  Students should be at LTS by 12:30 so we can arrange groups and chaperones, load up and be on our way by 1:00 pm. Students will return to LTS at 8:00 pm.

REFUSE TO USE
Event #2 will be held on Wed., Oct. 19 from 3:00-4:45 pm in the Kiva.  Trooper Godfrey and his dog Trooper Tarawa are back for the event.  This meeting is mandatory for Refuse to Use participants but anyone is welcome to join us! Contact Louise Misasi with questions.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
Saturday, October 15
Join the clean up crew for the Dorset Church Rummage Sale from 1:00 to 2:30 pm! Help bag and box unsold items, carry boxes and bags up to the street for pick up by other charitable organizations, break down and put away tables and display racks, and pick up litter and trash around the grounds.  Earn 3 hours of community service for just 90 minutes of work. Student volunteers mean so much to the church members who are exhausted after a week of preparation and the sale. 10-15 volunteers are needed.

COLLEGE GUIDANCE
TESTING
The next test option is the Nov. 5 SAT with a late registration deadline of Oct. 25. The Dec. 3 SAT has a registration deadline of Nov. 3.  The Dec. 10 ACT has a registration deadline of Nov. 4. These are the last tests of 2016.  There is a January SAT.


The PSAT will be administered at LTS to 10th and 11th grades on Wed., Oct. 19. Kaplan is offering free test prep. Visit their website for more details. 

FINANCIAL AID
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA, became available on October 1.  It will now use the 2015 tax year and utilize a data retrieval tool that will pull information directly from the IRS. These changes along with this early date will hopefully make the financial aid process easier. Please check with your prospective colleges on their deadlines.

Students need to submit their resumes to the Scott Magrath as soon as possible.

LONG TRAIL PARENT ASSOCIATION (LTPA)
HOLIDAY WREATH SALE
The LTPA is selling 12″ HOLIDAY WREATHS WITH RED BOWS for $25 each. Complete the online form to order yours today! The sale ends Nov. 6.  Wreaths may be picked up at Long Trail on Mon., Nov. 21 and Tues., Nov. 22 during Parent Conferences. Contact Kim Murphy with questions.

LTPA MEETING
The LTPA Meeting scheduled for Wed., Oct. 19 has been CANCELED.  Meeting attendance is at a record low so we are trying to decide the future of the LTPA.  Please complete this short
 SURVEY so we can decide how to move forward.

SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO GIVE BLOOD
SAVE THE DATE---DORSET BLOOD DRIVE!
From 12 to 5 pm on Fri., Nov. 11, the American Red Cross will be taking blood donations at Long Trail School.  Pre-registration is critical so that ARC sends a sufficient staff to assist donations in a timely fashion. While walk-in donors may be accepted, sign-up is preferable; for an appointment, click the red button above or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
