October 2016
Dear Friend,

Fall is here with all its glorious colors and cooler weather! Fall also means shorter daylight hours, so once again you may be getting ready for work while it is still dark outside. All the more reason to make sure your closets are well lit and super organized so you can quickly find what you need. Learn how today’s closets help make that happen.

In our neck-of-the-woods, beautiful fall leaves and crisp weather are great motivators to get outside and go horse back riding. If you love horses, you’ll enjoy taking a look at the horse barn we completed recently.

This month have fun carving your jack o’lantern and handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. Remember, there's no reason to be scared on Halloween, unless you’re a Reese's peanut butter cup. Be sure to check out Explore Caldwell and Macaroni Kid for events going on in our area this month, including but not limited to the Downtown Lenior Pumpkin Parade for the kids on the 28th.

Amazing Equestrian Center Design & Build

Our horse enthusiast clients needed a barn and riding arena to allow working with their horses year-round

We are very pleased that Vision Design Build Remodel’s past clients continue to ask us to build or remodel more projects for them. It confirms that our commitment to proper planning, product research, and superior construction is valued. Originally we remodeled a kitchen for these repeat clients, as well as built an outdoor kitchen with a big timber frame structure overhead. Recently, these horse enthusiasts contacted us to design and build a horse barn that includes stables and a riding arena for their own quarter horses. They wanted to keep their horses dry and also have ample space to work with them, train them and ride them during all seasons of the year.

Cody was enthused to be working on a project of this complexity and size. He spent considerable time with our clients to discover exactly what they were envisioning and then made a list of everything the client needed. In addition to the stalls and riding arena, they wanted a place to store and protect their 5th wheel camper/horse trailer, assorted equipment, and minor hay storage for the horses.

Cody did a lot of research into the design of equestrian centers, as well as consulting with other builders who have used products similar to the products he used in this project. He also received helpful information from the product dealers and then designed the building using our SoftPlan design software.

Cody feels that for every project we build, proper planning before construction begins is the key to success. Read our blog for the details and more pictures of this beautiful project.

Great Response to Pirate Principles

The 21st Century Building Expo & Conference in Charlotte, NC on Sept. 15 was a roaring success in several ways for Cody and Vision Design Build Remodel. Steve Monroe and Cody had a great response to the seminar they presented entitled  “Who Says It Has to be a Fair Fight?” A wide variety of attendees—builders, NAHB associate members, realtors, marketing professionals, trade contractors, landscape designers, and remodelers—enjoyed their class.

Learn a few of the pirate principles and how they can affect your choice in a company for your next remodeling project.

Continuing Education is Crucial

Cody believes in continuing education! It is the best way to build a successful company and serve your clients well. Several building industry trade shows and conferences are held in the fall each year. They offer top-notch seminars by nationally recognized speakers, vendors who showcase the latest trends in new products, and networking opportunities with fellow builders from across the country.

For this reason, Cody attended the 21st Century Building Expo & Conference (21CBEC) in Charlotte NC in September and the Remodeling Show in Baltimore, MD in October. At both industry shows, he spent time on the show floor learning about new products and took classes that will lead towards his Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) designation.

According to Cody, one of the most helpful courses at the 21CBEC was titled “Estimating and Scheduling.” This seminar drove home the idea that proper planning is key to the success of any project—a concept that Cody totally affirms and a concept that helps make your project flow smoothly from beginning to completion.

Have It All in Your Closet

Many of us have read Martha Stewart’s advice for determining what to keep and what to remove from our closets. She recommends you ask yourself: “How long have I had it? Does it still function? Is it a duplicate of something I already own? When was the last time I wore it or used it?” This kind of advice definitely helps us declutter. But when Monday morning comes and you are rushing to get ready for work, the type of closet organization system you have makes an even bigger difference in how quickly you can find that day’s perfect outfit and all the accessories that go with it.

Organization and Storage

Does your current system resemble this: underwear is stored in dresser drawers, suits are hung in the closet, accessories are kept in clear plastic bins stacked here and there, and shoes are slid into a shoe rack hanging from the bedroom door? You are proud there is a place for everything and everything is (usually) in its place. However, when you are in a hurry, precious time is lost scrambling from one corner of your bedroom to the other.

There is a more efficient way to handle things: a closet that offers one convenient space where everything is right at your fingertips. A variety of organization components are available for today’s closets, each one created for the optimal storage and protection of a specific type of item. Traditional elements, such as drawers, closet rods and shelves are designed for flexibility with multiple widths and depths.

Extra amenities to consider for your closet may include: full extension drawer slides so you can reach the very back of your closet; a pull down wardrobe lift so you can effortlessly reach clothing that is hanging in high places; sliding shoe and boot racks that bring your footwear out to you for easy selection; pullout hampers and foldaway ironing stations; mirrors that allow you to decide then and there which necklace or scarf best complements your outfit; locks that will secure jewelry and other valuables.

Lighting

Have you ever come to work with mismatched socks or shoes and it wasn’t on purpose? Perhaps your closet is lit with only one small overhead light fixture, which often makes its difficult for you to distinguish between wardrobe items that are black, brown and navy blue. One of today’s most exciting closet innovations is the introduction of LED lighting that illuminates all those previously dark spaces, minus the heat that could damage your clothing. There are extremely flat surface-mounted downlights, lighted wardrobe tubes, strategically placed LED ribbons, and glass edge ambient shelf lighting. “I got dressed in the dark” is no longer a viable excuse.

Artistry

While paying attention to every detail that assists you in getting dressed more efficiently, you will also want to maximize the beauty of your closet. Choose soft neutral colors, luxurious textures and classy finishes that serve as a serene backdrop for your wardrobe, yet make your closet feel very attractive and inviting.
