          Noon dismissal for Thanksgiving!

Dear Parents, Guardians, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of Assumption-St. Bridget School,
We look forward to seeing all parents and guardians at next week’s parent/teacher/student conferences.  Please be sure to sign up by following the directions sent to you in Skyward Family Access.  Contact Jeff Pozarski or I if you are having any trouble signing up for conferences.  This face- to- face time with teachers is invaluable and goes a long way as your child feels the support of both parents and teachers on the same page. Thank you in advance for making this a priority.  Also, students have been focusing on the importance and steps of goal setting this month in our self-regulation and executive functioning lessons school-wide.   Your child will be sharing their goals with you during the conference times.
Mr. Pozarski and I attended a MAP reporting training this week at the Archdiocese.  We are excited to continue to learn more about what our new assessment (MAP) will give us as far as data to guide instruction.  You will be looking at MAP assessment data at your child’s conference coming up next week.  In preparation for that, please click HERE to review a parent information pamphlet, so you will better understand what the MAP is and how to read the MAP results for your child.  One important thing to remember is that this assessment is a measurement tool of student GROWTH over the course of the year.  As a faculty, we will continue to learn more about how to best use different reports that are available to us to guide our instruction and meet the needs or our diverse learners.  Also, please take time to view your child’s daily progress via Skyward, now that it is mid-term time.
There have been some cars that are illegally parked on the eastside of the campus during drop off and pick up.  Your best bet is to park away from campus a few blocks and walk to campus to drop off or pick up.  We continue to encourage carpooling, walking, and riding to school to cut down on traffic and traffic related issues.  It is also vitally important that if you are signed up as a morning traffic volunteer, that you show up!  Many parents/guardians are not showing up and this directly correlates to difficulty with this intricate process.   If something arises and you are not able to show up for your scheduled time, please get your own substitute parent so that we can ensure the safety of all students and the efficiency of our drop off system.
Our weather is changing into true fall weather.  Please be sure your child(ren) comes to school well prepared.  We do like to send the students out in almost all kinds of weather for fresh air and exerciseJ
We look forward to our annual Halloween Carnival coming up on October 30th at St. Bridget Parish.  All students are encouraged and invited to participate in the Bake Goods Contest for the Carnival.  Bring your goodies to the bake sale table at the Carnival by 4:30 sharp! We will judge right away! Blue ribbon winners will be displayed front and center for all to see!
In November, ASB will be hosting Mr. Mike Sissel from Kaleidoeye, Lenses of Leadership.  Mike brings years of experience in coaching young people, educators and parents in building a growth mindset and their own leadership skills.  Mr. Sissel will meet with all students in classrooms on November 3rd and meet with our entire faculty and staff.  He has also offered to meet with parents for an education night, and I am working with Parent Board to schedule that later this year.  Here is a recent video  that he passed on to me in regards to building a growth mindset.  It is not his video, but one he uses with the students and clients he works with.  Enjoy!
In Christ’s peace,

Christina Vierra McGill

Accreditation Parent Survey

As part of the process, we are asking parents to provide feedback on a variety of topics. Please participate by taking this survey. Your input is critical as we create an accurate picture of our community. Contact Jeff Pozarski if you have difficulty with the Survey Monkey link. Thank you!

Basketball News:

We have finished our first round of basketball assessments and I am very proud of all the boys and girls who participated.  It was great to witness all of the cheering and encouragement that each player offered to their classmates and it was great to hear the squeak of basketball shoes on our new gym floor.  I want to remind everyone that their is one more assessment night for each group.  Please see the dates, times and days below:
Girls:
Tuesday, 10/25  – 5:30 p.m. (6th Grade), 6:45 p.m. (7th Grade) and 8:00 p.m. (8th Grade)
Boys:
Monday, 10/24 – 5:30 p.m. (6th), 6:45 p.m. (7th) and 8:00 p.m .(8th)

Athletics provides our students with the opportunity to learn in ways that extend classroom learning.  This is true no matter what team placements are made.  I would like to remind all parents and students that regardless of team placements, our program is about competing to our students’ best abilities, learning to develop new skills, and most importantly, having the opportunity to experience teamwork and have fun with friends and teammates.  Our placements are made with the best intentions of getting each student optimal playing time and the very best experience.

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to coach basketball this season. The ASB Basketball coach’s meeting will be Tuesday, November 1, at 7 p.m. in the Music Room.  Please come to the main doors at the Extended Care and the Preforming Arts Center. We will also be handing out basketball equipment this evening.  Note that uniforms will not be distributed tonight, so please stay tuned for uniform distribution information.
