GCS AG Update

The Plan, the Flipbook, and a Parent Guide

The state required, updated three year Guilford County Schools’ (GCS) Academically/ Intellectually Gifted (AIG) plan for 2016-2019 was approved by the Guilford County School Board in June 2016  and is in effect. The AIG plan in its entirety is on GCS AG website.

A simpler, quick reference, GCS AIG Identification and Service Flipbook is available at the front desk of all schools and with the elementary AG teachers to answer teachers’, administrators’, and parents’ frequently asked questions.

The GCS AG department is in the process of making a guidebook specific for parents of AG students. They are asking for your feedback for information you would like in the parent’s AG guide beyond identification and service. Think of one question or point of confusion you have had in the past about AG students or AG services in GCS and relay that to the GCS AG Executive Director Dibrelle Tourret or to the Guildford County PAGE AG liaison, Katherine Humphreys.

HPU STEM Creativity Event

Learning math with Legos

Thanks to our partners, Forsyth County PAGE and High Point University (HPU) School of Education, Guilford County PAGE members with students in third through eighth grade enjoyed a free four-hour event on Sept. 10 replete with Lego-powered fun. From simple machines to race tracks and hands-on math activities, there was something for everyone. While the students enjoyed rotating through various sessions, parents learned about gifted education, summer camps and more from HPU’s Dr. Shirley Disseler, Associate Professor, Education Chair, Elementary and Middle Grades Education Coordinator: STEM Education Program.
