Overlooked by most, the common place is reframed by Bijelic, and presented to us as scenes and objects of great intrigue.

This exhibition spans 20 years of Bijelic’s practice, combining a retrospective selection of paintings with new works from her series of Plughole paintings. In this series, bathtub plugholes from around the world are lovingly rendered in paint; each an entry point to a global network of connectivity though a vast web of unseen plumbing.

Friday Nights Live

Live music at MAC on Friday nights! All shows start at 6pm and cost $5 on the door. Doors and bar open from 5:30pm.

Fri 4 Nov: The Clementines - This female a capella group performs original arrangements of well - and lesser - known songs in four-part harmony and percussion. 

Fri 11 Nov: The Modern Operative - A 10 piece small big band playing arrangements of time honored jazz standards along with original compositions arranged by the band leader Kelly Ottaway and sax player Spike Mason. (Pictured)

In a world of visual excess, this slow journey through paint reassesses the consumable objects that comprise our contemporary cultural makeup. Abandoned rubbish, half eaten junk food and curious food constructions all quietly consider notions of beauty, excess and personal identity.

Artist Nathan Taylor uses hyper-realistic painting to explore and decode a visually saturated world. Viewers will find themselves lost in the exquisitely rendered surface of a crushed beer can, an abandoned doughnut, or a heavenly confection.

Nathan  will be presenting a free floor talk about his work followed by tea and scones. All are welcome!

Dance Like Everyone is Watching

Al Young’s bright and bold paintings are all about dancing. He dances while he paints, feeding his energy and movement into the artworks he creates.  

Inspired by an article called “Dance While Everyone is Watching” by disability advocate Stella Young, this body of work responds to her notion that every individual has a right to enjoy dancing publicly. 

Young’s vibrant artworks refuse to go quietly unnoticed. They celebrate movement in an example of how people living with a disability should not be defined by their disability in an exhibition that will bring a smile to your face, hope to your heart, and an irresistible tap to your feet.
