We are thrilled to have Naomi Curry joining us next Tuesday as our guest speaker. Naomi is an NDIS participant who is self-managing her NDIS funding.
“I started my NDIS journey in 2013 from Newcastle. In that time I have hired my own support, renewed my wheelchairs, had bespoke equipment made to enable my independence, and home modifications of my kitchen, laundry and bathroom."
Naomi is very keen to share her NDIS experience: what works, what doesn’t, the challenges and successes.

Say Hi to Charmaine Fraser

Image of Charmaine and her son Jack at the beach.
I’m the mother of two children. My son, Jack, is on the Autism Spectrum. We self-manage Jack’s NDIS plan. I have worked in the disability service sector for several years. I am the co-facilitator of the Peer Support to Buy Support group in Charlestown.

What do you most love about your life?
After living in Sydney for some time, I love living in Newcastle again. I particularly love the lack of traffic and the fact that there are plenty of spaces to park.

What’s a change you’d like to make?
I’m always striving to keep the balance between working and being a parent and all the demands of each.

How did you get involved with CDAH?
I saw a meeting about self-management advertised and decided to go. I heard another mum talk about how she self-managed her daughter’s package and it was a light bulb moment for me. I thought to myself, “if she can do it, so can I. Now that I am self-managing - and loving it - I really want to help others and pay it forward.

Tell us something about the NDIS:
It’s been life changing for us in a really positive way.

What’s your favourite movie?

Dirty Dancing.
