Fundraiser/Meet and Greet for Norm Bossert

Democratic Candidate, North Carolina Senate District 48
Contributions Appreciated
Sunday, October 16 at 5:00 PM

Sissy and Ryland Owen have invited us all to come to their home for a gathering October 16 from 5 until 6 PM. Their home is in a beautiful pastoral setting with a scenic drive from Hendersonville or parts east.

We will have time to renew old friendships and make new ones. Expect a quiet gathering, except for Norm’s stump speech. He has a real barnburner. Sissy will provide sodas, water and snacks.

Henderson County Democratic Party members who are active in the Party today are above all else dedicated to social justice. The Democratic Party is our best and final hope to achieve these goals.

The theme for this year’s election is:
“Everyone votes, everyone is protected.”

Please join us at
1961 Brookside Camp Rd.
Hendersonville, NC 28792
land line 828-694-3624

From downtown Hendersonville:
Take 64 towards Bat Cave. Turn left on Howard Gap Rd. Turn right on Salisbury Rd. Salisbury Rd dead ends on Brookside Camp Rd. Turn right on Brookside Camp Rd. Go about 100 yards and turn left into the driveway just before the mailbox that has 1961 on it. It is a hard downhill turn. Come 1/4 mile past the cabin and park on the right side of the driveway on the grass across from the main house. Please face out for easy exit.

First-Day of Early Voting Events

The HCDP is holding three big First-Day of Early Voting Events at the Henderson County Board of Elections, 75 E. Central St, Hendersonville, on Thursday, October 20. Our goal is to get 10% of the projected early vote in the box on the very first day of early voting, which will take 760 voters.

The first event is for early-risers. We’ll gather at BoE at 8 am for the opening of the polls at 8:30 am. After we all vote, we’ll head to Mike’s on Main for breakfast.

The second event is for the lunch crowd. We’ll gather at 11 am at BoE, vote as a group, and then head off to 3-Chopt Sandwiche Shoppe for lunch.

The third event is for any who miss the two earlier events.  We’ll gather at 5 pm at BoE, vote as a group, and then head to 2-Guys Pizza for an early dinner.

Karl Silverman will host at all three events.  Meet up with Karl under the big Hillary sign in the BoE parking lot at your selected event. You don’t have to go eat after voting, but note that Patty at Mike’s on Main, Mathew at 3-Chopt, and Mel at 2-Guys have been supporting us for years. Of course, you will have to pay for your own meals.

We need to get 760 votes in the box on October 20 so we hope to see you at the BoE.  However, if you can’t attend one of these events, just head to the BoE any time between 8:30 am and 6 pm and VOTE!

Limited parking is available. It's very important to RSVP.

NCAB Gubernatorial Debate

We welcome a relative newcomer to Henderson County as our speaker on November 5: Autumn Weil, the new Director of the Blue Ridge Literacy Council. This organization is little known or understood for the far reaching agency it is; it constantly calls on volunteers to help our citizens! We also will have time for "Inspiring Open Mic on the Political Scene"  from attendees in general. Bring a friend to breakfast!
CHILI COOK-OFF CELEBRATION PARTY NOVEMBER 12

Chile Cook-Off Cheerihjng Celebration November 12 from 5:30-8 pm at the First Congregational Church at 5th and White Pine. Sign up to be a chili competitor or to bring a side dish of cornbread, salad, or dessert. This is a $10 ticket and an evening of relief, laughter, good music, friendship, and food! Please call HQ at 828-692-6424 or Nancy Glowacki at 828-606-5201.
HOLLY PARTY DECEMBER 10

Statement from DNC Interim Chair Donna Brazile on Second Presidential Debate

WASHINGTON -- DNC Interim Chair Donna Brazile issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump would have had a better debate if he had just stayed in Trump Tower. He failed to issue a serious apology for his treatment of women, admitted he didn’t pay taxes, resorted to desperate attacks and mud-slinging, and was incoherent on every policy issue that came up. Hillary Clinton was unshakable. She was poised, prepared and informed. She offered substantive solutions to the serious challenges that our next president will face. And she proved once again that she is battle-tested, ready to fight for the American people, and the only candidate in this race qualified to serve as commander-in-chief.”

“We can expect to see more Republican leaders who endorsed Trump try to distance themselves from him in the coming days but don’t be fooled. They chose Trump as their standard-bearer, and now they have to live with him. We cannot afford to elect leaders who ever thought Trump was fit to serve. We must elect Hillary Clinton as our next president, and Democrats up and down the ballot across the country on Election Day to build on the progress of the last eight years.”
Call for Early Voting Poll Greeters

We are looking for poll greeters who will work outside the polls during Early Voting and hand out our Democratic Candidate list. Here is a list of the Early Voting coordinators and sites. Enthusiastic voters who want to help elect Democrats can volunteer for one or more two hour shifts. Contact one of these coordinators:

Board of Elections:  Kathleen Gould, ducks1982@msn.com, 910-231-7081
Flat Rock Village Hall:  Susie Hartsell, susiehartsell@outlook.com, 425-577-9966
Fletcher Library:  Jerry David,  jadavid@aol.com, 828-685-2257
Etowah Library:  Bob Hartsell, boloblueridge@outlook.com, 206-715-0754
Do you want to be a poll watcher?

You can volunteer for early voting (by this Friday) or for election day (by November 4) by contacting Susie Hartsell at susiehartsell@outlook.com or 425 577-9966. Your job would be to observe inside the building but not inside the polling room.  You will be trained for this volunteer option.

Call for Letters-to-Editors Writers

We encourage any and all Democrats to write letters-to-editors of their favorite publications, especially in the run up to the November 8 election. Our letters-to-editors team leader, Dawn Kucera, sends out an email occasionally with ideas for letters and where to send them for all of our local publications. If you wish to be on Dawn's email list, please contact her at dawnkucera@mac.com. Please note that joining Dawn's email list does not obligate you to write a letter; it just gets you her ideas--maybe one will inspire you!
SHOPPING AT HEADQUARTERS - Pick up yard signs, bumper stickers, and buttons at HCDP Headquarters. Get your Clinton/Kaine yard sign for $6 and Clinton/Kaine bumper stickers for $3 or 2/$5. Roy Cooper yard signs also are in at HCDP Headquarters.

ALERT! Please be courteous in placing our signs. It is NOT OK to obscure any Republican candidate. Please do not ever remove a sign! We have received some phone complaints about our behavior, so please play nice! Help protect our Democratic values by living them.
Giving what you can is all we ask. If you have not yet contributed for 2016, a one-time gift is welcome as we prepare to send out mailings to our constituency all over the county and visit them with campaign materials. We are heartened by the volunteers coming in the door to help! Please click ActBlue above to contribute.
