Estimada Comunidad Escolar:

Surfing 2016

What a great way to start the month of October. On the first Tuesday of the month a total of 29 pupils from 4th Year Secondary and 1st Year Bachillerato travelled to the sunny Pobla de Farnals to receive sessions on both surfing and paddle surf. Upon arrival we were welcomed by the ever friendly staff at “Inglés y surf” and after a safety briefing we were ready to “catch a few waves”.

In groups, we were shown different techniques that we were able to master through lots of practice with many fun and memorable moments along the way. The day activity proved to be very popular and the students were provided with the opportunity to be active in the natural environment whilst at the same time improving their English. We are already looking forward to our return next year!

Una quantitat incalculable d'amor, afecte i respecte.

Donar i demostrar molt amor i afecte.

Random Algebra and Colour Friday Quiz

There was a random element to the Year 7 and 8’s Algebra lesson this week.  They were asked to classify different types of ‘random’ sweets by colour.  They were then asked to write an algebraic expression for their sweets.  The groups were then asked to think of other ways that the sweets could be classified; shape, taste etc.  Their final task was to write an equation for the total cost of their sweets.

A mathematical sphere was thrown around the classroom as part of Year 7 and 8’s ‘Colour Friday Quiz’.  The pupils were given the opportunity to answer questions based on decimal calculations.  If they were successful they were given a prize.  If however the pupil was unable to answer the question, they were then able to throw the ball to a friend who could answer for them.

High School - Day Without Walls

As their "Day Without Walls" project the MYC1, MYC2 and MYC3 classes participated in a hike up Table Mountain. The rather large group was accompanied by Mr Behne, Mr Milbank, Mr Olivier, Dr Vlachakis, Mrs Franken and Ms Richardson.

Our route of ascent was Constantia Corner, which was new to most, and many and varied were the styles of ascent. The race horses were out front, while other less agile members of the group brought up the rear. The long tea break at the top of the ridge was much appreciated, and was followed by a stroll past the Camel Rock (ascended by Luke Eberhard) to the De Villers Reservoir, where empty water bottles were refilled.

Here we split into A and B teams. The B team took the "low road" to the Scout Hut, while the A team followed the Hole In The Wall route, via Wynberg cave entrance, to reach the hut a little later.

After lunch we meandered over to Nursery Ravine, via the Water Works Museum, and returned to the jeep track for a quick descent back to the Nek.

Overall a very enjoyable hike, undertaken in rather hot, humid conditions. We were all very impressed by the spirit displayed by most!
