David S. Ware: tenor saxophone, composition
Matthew Shipp: piano, composition

Live in Sant’Anna Arresi, 2004 is the 2nd volume in AUM Fidelity’s David S. Ware Archive Series, and the first release of the saxophone master in rare duo performance with fellow master of music, pianist Matthew Shipp. Though sharing 17 years together in the legendary David S. Ware Quartet, they performed duo concerts perhaps a half dozen times in that period. Thankfully, on this latter-day occasion at Ai Confini tra Sardegna e Jazz in Sardinia, their work together in this form was professionally recorded.

Following David’s untimely passing in October 2012 on the eve of his 63rd birthday, it was understood necessary to continue releasing singular works of great magntitude in order to further radiate his distinctly potent sound and vision. David S. Ware’s work was a foundational inspiration of AUM Fidelity, and the mission continues strong with this essential DSW-ARC series. As AUM's momentous catalog#100, this release is also fitting as it was Matthew Shipp who personally introduced me to David S. Ware back in 1994. That was the same year the portrait featured on this album cover was taken by world-renowned New York City photographer Sylvia Plachy. The deluxe 6-panel digipak also features wonderful liner notes by Mr. Shipp.

Eri Yamamoto: piano, compositions
David Ambrosio: bass
Ikuo Takeuchi: drums

"The album captures both the endless movement of a sea of people moving by and the meditative moment where time just seems to stop and the awareness of nature becomes a sign of the gift that is life.

The music moves from medium tempo to more reflective moments, but whether Yamamoto plays fast or slow there is lucidity in the way she lets the lines dance across the tangents, moving from the clear, sparkling waters of "Stars" to the slow, melancholy beauty of "Half Moon."

Throughout the album, Takeuchi, Ambrosio and Yamamoto are in constant and close interaction and the sheer ease and depth of their dialogue is a thing to treasure, like having a good talk with a friend about the joys and sorrows of a day gone by."  –All About Jazz

New Spotlight page on Vinyl-Book-DVD offerings

Yes, a number of related works have been put on offer over the last year or so; here they are all collected in one convenient-to-browse spot.  Take advantage of our flat shipping costs!

The page ALSO features some fine items which have NOT been put on offer from AUM before -- being the LP edition of the sole album by singular and deeply affecting gospel singer/electric guitarist Isaiah Owens  -&-  a pair of 7" EP productions by "indie rock" bands PONY and Stratotanker which predate the launch of AUM Fidelity by a few years and were my first endeavors in making records, way back now..

Finally -- I am extremely excited to be spending today in the studio with William Parker and esteemed company who will be recording a pair of new (and discrete) quartet albums! Gotta run!!

Many cheers; may we all forward with compassion and fortitude,

Steven / AUM
