ISSUE 35 :: Catch-Up :: WHAT'S UP :: WORTH A READ :: ROUND-UP :: ON TREND

A weekend get-away last weekend was a welcome diversion, but boy did I feel a step behind in the studio when I returned. A new month's commitments, a guild meeting and a swap to prepare for.... It's been a bit much. But thankfully, as I publish today's issue, I feel relatively on top of things, and excited about the w.i.p.s I'll be working on in the next couple of weeks. I hope the same for you!

WHAT'S UP

Since last issue, I've only had two little finishes - a pillow and a mini quilt - but activity in our quilting community has been full with the Blogger's Quilt Festival and the Finish-A-Long, where you can still join in Q4. Something that you can't really plan - or at least I can't - are those posts when the real you sneaks in .... your innermost emotions and reflections. Twice recently it's happened - as always, unexpected - and if you missed reading about them, see transition and The Ridiculous.

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

It was Stacey/SLOstudio who enticed me with her Hourglass Block tutorial last week, and after seeing her Wildwood Hourglass Quilt, I set off to find other hourglass projects, and of course, started a pin board to collect them.

Before I left Stacey's website, I happened upon her Ring Road, which is a pretty darn awesome use of the hourglass block - and more! [slostudio]
Leave it to Amanda Jean/crazy mom quilts to make her hourglass pillow bright and scrappy. And pretty irresistible. [crazymomquilts]
The simple use of striped fabric gave Jacqueline/Bind's Stripey a whole new look, which I love. [bind_quilts]
The Essex Linen Hourglass Quilt by Elaine/Beech Tree Land Handmade has a unique design, and with all that Essex, gives a lovely, subtle look with delightful texture. [beechtreelanehandmade]
Adrianne/Little Bluebell has created her two-tone Modern Butterfly pattern as well as a No Template Double Hourglass Block Tutorial - both wonderful variations on the traditional block. [littlebluebell]

ON TREND

We're seeing Pineapples
everywhere, right? Here's a cute mini quilt by Sassafras Lane Designs, and they are kind enough to offer a free pattern. I've also been collecting some favorites in my Pineapples pin board. Are you tempted to make one yet?

P. S. Confession time: I couldn't stop thinking about those hourglass blocks....
