"...And She dances and spins toward darkness all dressed in autumn fire. To descend to the time of shadow, and rest from the world's desire..."

--Shekhinah Mountainwater, Ariadne's Thread

The quarter points of the year, the time of Samhain, and points of significant personal transition (such as childbirth), find us in a time of liminal space.

"In anthropology, a liminal space is a threshold. It’s an ambiguous space in the middle stage of rituals, when participants no longer hold their pre-ritual status but have not yet begun the transition to the status they will hold when the ritual is complete. That liminal space finds us between who we once were and who we are becoming. It’s disorienting, uncomfortable, and it almost always takes far longer than we expect."

Heather Plett explains that liminal spaces might feel like "wasting time" or like "nothing is happening," but truly, "It’s a time of hibernation, a time of transformation, a time of resting, and a time of deep learning."

In this issue of the Journal, we've prepared a special new gift for you. In your October Ritual Kit packet you will find:
  • Calling Your Spirit Back ritual outline
  • Liminal Space journaling and mandala prompt (shared with permission from Heather Plett)
  • Hecate Wheel printable prayer wheel/mandala
  • Meditation Palm Stone tutorial

Listen.
The veil is thin.
I spin the web.
I call the circle.
I honor the ancestors.
Yes, that pointed hat is mine.

We are also pleased to announce our Limited Edition Samhain Story Goddess is ready!

We also have several varieties of ritual kits. We have some one-off deluxe kits with a variety of contents and large triple moon altar cloths. I love these large altar cloths, hand-dyed for us by our lovely shop assistant and skilled artist-friend. We change them out for each season on our living room altar space. I also use them on the floor in my tiny temple as the center of the room for personal ceremony or small group ritual.

And, we have some one-off special kits that have a smaller, hand-dyed triple moon cloth for using for card readings or small altar spaces. These fold up into a perfect size for tucking into your purse or a travel card reading bag. I keep two of them in my bag with my Womanrunes book, cards, journal, and workbook as well as several goddesses, lots and lots of mini goddess, some stones, and our goddess mandala prints. This is kind of my traveling sacred space bag—it goes out to the tiny temple with me and then back inside. I usually take it to town, so that I have all my most useful tools close at hand for photos, mini rituals, or whatever I might need!

We also added two Simple Samhain Kit options.

And, we added Red Owl Rattles to the shop also, perfect for passing the rattle in the Red Tent!

Featured Goddess

Our featured Story Goddess this month is Gaia. She is one of our newest Story Goddesses and I am in love with her specially blended color. This is not a commercially purchased pigment, but rather one that Mark created himself with some trial and error and now blends by hand in small batches as we make her. You can read more about Gaia in her companion blog post here.

“The autumn woman moves towards dreamtime. Though she knows her limits, she has also felt limitless. She has known the ineffable. She wakes at night from dreams of high windy places where small blue flowers bloom, and she knows in her bones that such places exist. Luminous beings appear in her dreams and pull her towards them. She recognizes the dust of infinity in a windstorm, the fragrance of timelessness in a fire…”

—Patricia Monaghan, excerpted from Seasons of the Witch

May we walk through this liminal dreamtime with awareness and curiosity and may we hold our own transitions with compassion and tender patience.

Blessings to you all!
