Argiope Aurantia
A mature female Black & Yellow Garden Spider (Argiope Aurantia). These spiders are common in gardens, farms, forest edges & orchards. The female measures from 3/4 " to 1 1/8 ". Their web is round with a bold, zigzag band of silk. The complicated web can be 2+ feet in diameter. Potential males court by plucking & vibrating the female web. This runs contrary to the myth that females are always the ones "harping" The female lays up to 3 brown egg sacks each containing 300-1400 eggs.
