Poem, White Fragility and Guarding Grizzly
10.08.2016

Dear Friend,

I'm back in Montana with my son and welcoming Northern autumn - time for grieving the year's and many generations' accumulated losses, celebrating gains, resting and cleaning the slate before winter's dreaming season. My thoughts are with the families of those who are murdering and being murdered in the streets and those whose lives are wholly disrupted and imminently endangered as fire, flood, drought, disease and famine sweep land and sea, and combat persists.

Among the dreamers, grizzly calls for immediate attention. FWS comment period on US Fish and Wildlife Service decision to delist Yellowstone grizzly ended 10.07.2016. Please continue to encourage grizzly's protection from sport / trophy hunting and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem from shortsightedness.

Further thoughts on hubris, trophy hunting, and links to information
from conservation biologists can be found at WOUNDED GRIZZLY WALKING.

Thursday night, my son and I watched the movie TITANIC (1997). The most tragic story of that great ship sinking has been offered by many authors as parallel to civilization's relationship with Earth. Civilization - a huge ship, slow to turn, and moving at high speed toward its demise when it inevitably slams into natural barriers with too few life boats for all passengers. I held my son in my arms, weeping tears onto his head while wondering how nobility ever became so distorted. My thoughts go to the obvious suppressed passions.

Friday morning's BBC News on Haiti and Hurricane Matthew and evacuations in Florida are like watching TITANIC again only as the story line memorized by me in school. What's missing from the parallels I've read is the matter of the diamond necklace and heart of the love story as told in this film, a story that is, to me, just as familiar in a haunting way. Rose gave up the diamond necklace once and then again in exchange for her soul.

At the end of this post are a few options for offering support to women who are doing their best to live by the ultimate rule that is our love for one another, our children, and our true loves in the interest of restoring Soul to the culture. Along with this, my gratitude to those who have and continue to support me that I may do the same. 2016 has proven thus far to be the year I dreamed. A year that has brought me out of hiding at this screen and into dialogue and communion with others in person. Please enjoy as well a few free offerings, including videos from Bioneers. With thanks to patrons, I look forward to attending Bioneers 2016. One thousand gratitudes.

There are many reasons to guard grizzly and others, including rapidly changing circumstances that lay bare life's uncertainties and every body's fragility. Whether or not the ship is already sinking, there's much to be gained in attempting to ensure no more innocents drown by way of being forgotten.

Though there may be vastly differing opinions on how to so do, everyone wants to protect today's children from suffering the consequences of human pride and prejudice long passed generation to generation, yes? Redemption is alive in the Tribes banding together to protect water and sign treaty for grizzly.

The child of Peace and Sacrifice is present in open arms once again extending One embrace. Peace Is.

And this because water is poisoned and children of all walks are ingesting plastics in one form or another as actual sustenance grows evermore scarce. With deforestation amidst the required activities in a wave of mass-production and consumption ongoing, untold species grow further threatened and lost daily.

7 bee species native to Hawaii have been added to the endangered list just as RoboBees become more than fantasy. We've just lost Rabbs’ fringe-limbed tree frog, a species known briefly to conservation biologists. And toads have declined in number by two-thirds in the past thirty years. Yet this news is unlikely to strike a chord unless a person has intimate experience with toads and comprehends their role in community. So, it's tremendous to witness projects like StokeShare that ensure opportunity for economically disadvantaged kids to be immersed in their watersheds.

And the market is revolving. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) triennial conference CoP17 closed 10.4.2016 with decisions on 62 species-listing proposals submitted by 64 countries.

CoP17 triumphs include transfer of all 8 pangolin species to Appendix I, strides toward the closure of domestic elephant ivory markets, and adoption of proposed trade restrictions on many rosewoods and similar tropical woods threatened by illegal trade in the international market. Most unfortunate is lack of action to stop lion bone trade and canned hunting. "African Lions are currently Appendix II, meaning that their bodies, trophies and parts may be openly traded with a CITES certificate. Appendix I would ensure a far stricter clamp down and protection from illicit trade" Sign petition DEMANDING VOTE FOR LIONS ADDED TO APPENDIX I See Blood Lions and Global White Lion.

In addition to keeping up with Yellowstone grizzly, please join Wild Futures Wednesday 11.2.2016 for a free webinar on Mountain Lion Kittens: Trials, Triumphs & Tragedies. And see People and Carnivores for additional efforts toward peaceful co-existence.

Women are 'rising rooted' from aged ashes of genocide. What's behind, underneath, and inside the shiny cupboard is all clearly wretched and too painful to be ignored any longer. More than hope for the flowers, there is grizzly passion. And grizzly passion has been proven to stop a freight train. Women CAN and we are cleaning this mess up NOW.

"Every species is unique in some way,
but humans aren’tuniquely unique
amongst other species.

There’s nothing that fundamentally separates us
from the other animals or from the fleshly world
we inhabit alongside them.

To be human means to be animal,
whatever else it means."

- Daniel McCoy / Norse Mythology Totemism

"In fact, they lived in a realm in which ordinary
    human/animal distinctions did not exist,
in which we were all one. And by the end
I had come to feel I was one of them."

        - Lise Weil, Editorial, DARK MATTER: WOMEN WITNESSING
Issue #4. Making Kin: Part I

In her opening comments on the newly released 4th Issue of Dark Matter: Women Witnessing, Lise Weil reflects on losing her cat companion and the profound grief inspired by our most intimate losses. I've found that my companions have become more clearly a part of me when they pass, as if their characters are fully integrated into mine. This is also the case with those who have been with me in this witness, among them whale, lion, wolf, grizzly, bison, elephant, and bee.

As much as they have come to infuse my being through this spiritual practice and process, I vision us thriving together physically again. Grizzly's presence is a feeling that puts my body's existence in context of something greater, a larger body that thrives in my physical passing as much as my physical birth. Bound with grizzly, I am Animas. And I don't want to live without her. Not that loneliness please.

I live in grizzly's generous world of flesh and bone. Disease and decay. Where lion and gazelle know a peaceable agreement. Where one body feeds another and everyone struggles with hunger on occasion, yet hunger's struggle is standard for no one.

I grieve and rejoice this hour when humans through tragedy remember our peaceable agreements. And pray that my flesh be fed to wolves, if they'll have me, when I pass over, however that may be.

Love,
megan
