K-12 lesson plans and resources to inspire and equip students who use their hearts and minds to impact their world.

Election day is right around the corner. How do you incorporate the election into your curriculum with youth who are still too young to vote?

We believe K-12 students have the power to research, understand, and participate in the election process regardless of age. Learning to Give offers FREE election, civic engagement, and advocacy lesson plans ready for use!

Try one of these K-12 lessons in your classroom this month!

  • K-2 ~ Kindness Certificate: Students will demonstrate that gifts do not need to be bought. They will brainstorm "kindness" types of gifts, such as a service or a homemade creation.
  • 3-5 ~ Teaching Peace through Literature and Song: How can our positive and negative behaviors affect others who we perceive as different from us? Through reflection on the story Thank You, Mr. Falker, students explore empathy and respect for diversity of people and talents. The students relate the definition of philanthropy to the treatment and respect of others. They learn a song and create new songs to share with others their new understanding of these themes.
  • 6-8 ~ Feed Just One: Students read about the caring work of Mother Teresa. They respond to questions about her work.
  • 9-12 ~ Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk: Learners explore what it means to demonstrate civic virtues of justice, kindness, peace, and tolerance as responsible citizens. The students write a goal to practice one of the virtues.

Why Learning to Give?

When you think of Philanthropy, we want you to think of Time, Talent and Treasure.

Philanthropy education aligns knowledge and skills with students' innate caring and generosity. With a philanthropic approach:

  • Students become aware of needs larger than their own and take action to address them (purpose);
  • Students are engaged in activities that apply and expand their learning (mastery); and
  • Students take a role in directing their own learning experience (autonomy).
