President's Farewell

As president of the last 4 years my time has come to an end. Firstly I would just like to thank all my committee, past and present, who over my time have been absolutely brilliant and have made my job to run club very easy. To all our coaches, managers, volunteers and players I thank you all as you are the SJFC and this is why we are a successful club on and off the field. The club is based on families, players developing as young adults growing on and off the field and we are part of the community. I would also like to thank our sponsors as we cannot run as a club without their support so it is much appreciated. I look forward to watching the Scarborough Junior Football Club continue to grow over the years ahead as it has done over my time.

Lastly I would like to welcome Julie Johnson as the new president of SJFC. Julie will be our first female president and is very keen and enthusiastic about continuing to grow our great club. So to her and her committee, all the best for the season of 2017.

Scarborough Wins YR11 & YR8 Premierships

YR11

Scarborough 6.8 (44) v Whitford 3.10 (28)

After a great first quarter in Which Scarborough kicked 4 goals to 1, rain reduced the second quarter to a scramble.

At halftime a Scarborough player was controversially given a red card which meant the team had to play the first 15 minutes of the third quarter one player short. Despite being a player down, the team fought hard to stay in the game and went into the final quarter 4 points up. With great spirit and teamwork Scarborough managed to kick the only two goals of the final quarter to secure victory, in what was a very even team effort.

YR8

Scarborough 8.10 (58) v Quinns 3.2 (20)

Inaccuracy in front of goal with the wind in the first quarter and some dogged defending against the wind in the second quarter saw just four points separating ladder leaders Scarborough and its Grand Final opponent Quinns Cyclones at the main break.

Three goals in the third quarter gave Scarborough a bit of breathing space at the final change, but Quinns had the advantage of a stiff breeze in the last. The Scarborough lads defied the wind to outscore their opposition, running out 38 point winners to cap off a highly successful season.

Forward pocket Solomon McDonald kicked four of the team’s eight goals and Tim Hogan was a deserved named Man of the Match.

Conference Fairest & Best Awards

The Club had great success in the Conference Awards with Zane Shellabear-Healey voted as the Fairest & Best in the YR11 competition by the umpires across the three districts. Zane’s achievement was almost matched by Samuel Southern who was the runner up in the YR8 Blue Competition, finishing just one vote behind the winner

This is a great achievement by both players and the Club is very proud to have them wearing the jumper.
