This really is an excellent win, as it is done across the seasons most competitive Medal competitions. Well played John, and we hope to see you at this years prizegiving.

Additionally,  David Barrie won the Presidents Putter, as the lowest net score returned for all qualfiers of the Medals Finals. Well done David.

The Stenhouse Cup was also resolved the previous week, with David McKechnie defeating Paul McShane. Congratulations to David who adds that win to his success in the 2016 Sir John Hunter Shield.

Do you know the rules?

Now that a few bunkers are out of commission due to the rain, we thought this may be a current situation, one or two of you may find yourself in.

Question - Your ball lands in a bunker as usual. When you arrive at it, it is sitting nicely, but there is a blue stake in the bunker, so it is clearly GUR. What do you do?

  1.  Opt to play it as it lies.
  2.  Take a drop outside the bunker, within a club length, at the nearest point of relief.
  3.  Take a drop behind and outside the bunker, within a club length, in line with where your ball originally was, but keeping the bunker between you and the hole.

Last weeks answer - As you made an attempt to play the wrong ball (even if you  missed) you incur a penalty of two strokes for playing a wrong ball, and your fresh air swipes are not counted. The answer was (3). See Rule 15-3b.

It is official- Why we play golf

A study, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine and part of the Golf and Health Project, which is led by the World Golf Foundation, has categorically hinted that playing golf is good for your health. It's official....

Dr Andrew Murray, from the physical activity for health research centre at Edinburgh University, said: "We know that the moderate physical activity that golf provides increases life expectancy, has mental health benefits and can help prevent and treat more than 40 major chronic diseases such as heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, breast and colon cancer.

"Evidence suggests golfers live longer than non-golfers, enjoying improvements in cholesterol levels, body composition, wellness, self-esteem and self-worth.

Roll on Saturday!
