Introduction to Git
Git is a powerful tool for keeping track of changes you make to the files in a project. In this workshop, we'll learn the basics of understanding and using Git, including working with the popular "social coding" website, GitHub. Register here!
Introduction to Text Analysis in Python
Students will learn the basics of cleaning, transforming, formatting text data and will be introduced to topic modeling and word2vec methods. This is an interactive, hands-on workshop, in which students will complete challenges related to each text analysis task. Register here!
Introduction to XML for Historical and Literary Research
This three-part workshop series will introduce the basic concepts and applications of XML, with hands-on exercises in HTML, KML, and TEI, using materials that are constructed around historical documents and literary texts. Register here!
Introduction to Pandas
Pandas is a Python package providing fast, flexible, and expressive data structures designed to make working with 'relational' or 'labeled' data both easy and intuitive. In this workshop, we'll work with example data and go through the various steps you might need to prepare data for analysis. Register here!
Web Mapping with CARTO
This workshop will provide an introduction to managing, creating and analyzing geographic data and creating interactive map visualizations for the web, using the CARTO platform. Register here!
Introduction to Regular Expressions
In this workshop, we'll learn how to build regular expressions using special characters, sets or quantities of characters, the absence of certain characters, this-or-that alternatives, and other options. Then we'll briefly demonstrate how to use these expressions in Python and R, to get you familiar with the package you'll use in your own programming. Register here!

XML and Its Uses for the Humanities
The Literature and Digital Humanities Working Group would like to present a talk on XML as a follow up to 'Editions Inside of Archives: Literary Editing and Preservation at the Mark Twain Project'. RiPWG Presents: Conducting Field Experiments in the Global South
The Research in Progress Working Group is proud to present a panel of PhD candidates and students from diverse disciplines who will discuss the challenges and opportunities of conducting field experiments in the global south. Panelists collectively have experience in Guinea, Kenya, Mexico, Ecuador, Côte d’Ivoire, Sri Lanka and a variety of other settings on topics as diverse as electrification, trust and Ebola, preventing electoral violence, political party system collapse, and parliamentary elections.
