Hi folks,

It's closing in on the end of the year, and there are some big things happening! While I've pulled back from regular markets on account of ye olde day job, I am doing a couple of big ones. Scroll down for photos and, as always, just hit 'reply' if you have any questions or want to get in touch.

Also, a big thank you to everyone who sponsored our Steptember team. We raised $445.50 for the Cerebral Palsy Society!

A huge thank you also to my supporters on Patreon, Amanda and Adrienne.

ARTWEEK AUCKLAND 2016

Last year I was part of a group event with giant colouring pages - this year I'm hosting it at the Dorothy Butler Children's Bookshop (1 Jervois Road). It's open during shop hours (7 days) so pop in anytime to help bring these pages to life!

If you'd like to take the pages home with you, you can purchase the book, limited to 100 copies for sale, for just NZ$12.

THE NZ BOOK FESTIVAL

It's the third year for this festival, and it promises to be bigger and better than ever. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet creative kiwis doing their thing, and maybe work on the Christmas gift list. Most of my products will have festival special prices.

I'm on the committee this year and sponsoring the Kids' Zone - there's face painting (by Fairy Jane, my illustrator), colouring bookmarks, celebrity storytime and heaps of children's books (teens too). Of course, plenty of adult literature as well, and coffee onsite.

It's at the Mt Eden War Memorial Hall (opposite Potters Park) so super handy for Aucklanders, and if you want to keep up to date, join the Facebook event.

I will also be launching the SECOND annual NZ Young Writers' Anthology (a collection of stories and poems by NZ children up to 14 years). This year's project is themed 'Heroes'. It's available for presale now, and any orders would be much appreciated to help fund the project.

ART EXHIBITION AND ART BOOK

This year I am hosting my first painting exhibition, Broken / Beautiful. If you've seen my work this year, you'll know there are themes of spirituality and wellbeing, and a strong emotive resonance.

I've searched for a venue in keeping with these themes and am excited to announce that the exhibition will be held at Youthline's gallery space, next to Thyme Out Cafe in Papatoetoe, Auckland. Keep updated via the Facebook event. 10% of sales will be donated to Youthline.

Also, if I can get my act together, my new art book I am an Artist will be launched at this exhibition. It is my first non-fiction book, looking at what it's like to be a working artist in Aotearoa. The book interviews four working artists - Jane Thorne, Andrew Black, Catherine Warren, and Megan Murphy - and provides ways young artists can explore their own method of artmaking. It's illustrated by one of my students at Kip McGrath, Anna Victoria Simpson, who is just 12 years old! Super excited to get this out in the world. Again, keep updated via the Facebook event.

FESTIVAL OF FLOWERS

Since the lovely Jane Thorne is now a resident of Waiuku, we'll have our books at the Waiuku Festival of Flowers, from Fri Nov 25 to Sunday Nov 27. It's just 45min from Auckland and would make a lovely day trip. I'll be there on the Friday and Saturday (more info on the poster below).
The colouring begins! Join in at the Dorothy Butler Children's Bookshop, 1 Jervois Rd, Ponsonby. It's open until 4pm Sunday 16 Oct.
Me with one of the paintings that will be exhibited: "Unfinished".
