Para el Instituto Monteverde es importante promover actividades culturales que fomenten espacios de encuentro. A modo de ejemplo, el mes pasado tuvimos nuestro tercer encuentro de Libro Vivo con Carlomagno Méndez. El fin de esta actividad (Libro Vivo) es que diferentes miembros de la comunidad nos cuenten un poco sobre la historia del lugar donde estamos ubicados. Gracias a Francisco Burgos (Director Centro de Iniciativas Comunitarias del IMV) y Marlene Leitón (bibliotecaria del IMV) por organizar estas actividades.
También tuvimos el honor de una de las sedes donde se dio el Festival Internacional de Poesía, gracias al apoyo del grupo de poetas locales Gato Pardo.
English --- For the Monteverde Institute it's important to offer activities that promote cultural exchange between people. Last month we had our third Living Book meeting with Carlomagno Méndez. The Living Book is a forum where different community members tell us about the history of our region and their experiences over the years. We are always surprised at how much we learn from these fun evenings. A big thanks to Francisco Burgos (Director of the Center for Community Initiatives) and Marlene Leitón (Librarian of the MVI) for making this possible.
We also had the honor of hosting the International Poetry Festival, thanks to the local poetry group Gato Pardo.
Documental Sikua y un fin de semana musical-
The documentary Sikua and a Musical Weekend
Para seguir con las actividades culturales en las siguientes semanas tenemos dos muy importantes.
El primero es la presentación del documental Sikua (extrangero) que es sobre la exploración de la cosmovisión de la comunidad indígena Bribri. Además se tendrá un conversatorio con el director José Pablo Porras. El documental va a ser llevado a los colegios públicos de Guacimal (el 12 de octubre) y al Colegio Técnico Profesional de Santa Elena (el 13 de octubre). También será presentado en el Instituto Monteverde el viernes 14 de octubre a las 6:30 (para todo el público) como parte de la celebración del día de la cultura costarricense. Los días 28 y 29 de octubrea las 6:30pm vamos a tener conciertos en el Instituto Monteverde con reconocidos músicos nacionales e internacionales. Para ver el afiche completo pueden seguir el siguiente enlace. Agradecemos la colaboración del Hotel Poco a Poco así como el Restaurante Tramonti. Estos eventos musicales no serían posibles si no fuera por el trabajo y dedicación de Gloria Waissbluth, miembro de la Junta Directiva del Instituto Monteverde.
Estas actividades se ofrecen de manera gratuita para todo aquel que desee participar de ellos, esperamos contar con su presencia.
English --- We have two important cultural activities scheduled in the upcoming weeks.
First, a presentation of the documentary Sikua (Foreigner). This movie is about how the astral bodies and stars are perceived by the Bribri indigenous community. Afterward there will be a question and answer period with the director José Pablo Porras. The documentary will be shown at the two public high schools: Guacimal (October 12th) and at Santa Elena (13th of October) and then on Friday the 14th of October at 6:30pm at the Monteverde Institute where everyone is invited to attend. Charla sobre puentes vivientes
- The Talk on Living Bridges
La semana pasada el Instituto Monteverde auspició una charla con Sanjeev Shankar sobre puentes vivientes en los Himalayas en el noreste de India. Éste promovía el uso de estas estructuras en otros lugares del mundo, como Costa Rica. La charla fue tan inspiradora que ahora hay miembros de la comunidad planeando construir uno en la zona. Gracias a Fern Perkins (Coordinadora de cursos cortos del IMV) por apoyar con la logística de la charla.
English ---Last weekend Sanjeev Shankar showed us photos and talked about the remarkable Living Bridges in the Himalayas of Northeast India, bridges built sustainably from natural materials and which often function for several hundred years! His inspiring talk promoted the use of these unique structures in other areas of the world, like Costa Rica, and led the audience to dream about how they could fit into our area. Thanks to Fern Perkins (Short Course Coordinator of the MVI) for helping out with the logistics of this talk.

Estamos felices de haber colaborado en conjunto con nuestro grupo de Futuros Sostenibles (de las Universidades de Buffalo y Maryland) en el diseño y en parte de la construcción de este hermoso proyecto.
