HRTC Weekly Update | 12th October

HRTC Division 2 Doubles Pennant | Handicaps 36-55

In a first for HRTC (and perhaps a little trial run), HRTC will be offering members the opportunity to join in a graded one hour formal doubles pennant running on Monday nights at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm. This style of pennant is most popular at other Clubs and we are hoping it may catch on here as well. The pennant will be rotated through all handicap ranges throughout the year - but the first pennant offered will be for players with handicaps in the 36-55 handicap range.

Matches will be played off handicap, run for 50 minutes on the clock after a small warm-up and will be scheduled at either 7pm, 8pm or 9pm on Monday nights. The later matches are never that popular - but with 10 teams (only six can play each week), matches will not be every week - and members can expect late matches only about three times in a three month pennant series. For players that enjoy their doubles, hope to improve their doubles or that would like to get involved in a pennant format but do not have a whole night to put to it - this is the pennant for you!!

Players can choose their own partner - or simply call Brett and Pat to have a suitable one arranged. Numbers will be limited, so waste no time in signing up. Call the Club to express an interest or use the link below:

President's Cup 2016 | Hobart v Melbourne (in Melbourne)
November 19 - 20

HRTC will be sending a team to play our Melbourne based counter-parts in our annual President's Cup on November 19/20. Melbourne are promising to put on a great weekend as usual, with handicap singles and doubles matches organised throughout the weekend- plus the usual social festivities to boot! Members of all ages and abilities are encouraged to consider the trip...they are always loads of fun!

First Friday Drinks

Last week's Oktoberfest First Friday Drinks attracted quite a crowd. Whether people were lured in by the enticing aroma of the awesome sausages provided by James Lord of Huon Valley Meats (expertly cooked by Hilton Booth) - or the fine selection of German beer on offer from Cool Wines - the scene was set for a fun night.
Hofbrau proved to be the most popular choice of beer, although the very scientific method of picking the beer based how pretty the label looked worked well for most. A few brave souls even got into the true Oktoberfest spirit donning costumes - some more willingly than others

Vice President, Christine Stirling said a few words and thanked the orgnaisers and the members for coming along and supporting the emerging social scene of the Club.
This turnout bodes well for next month's First Friday Scottish Drinks - which should be an equally entertaining evening.

Our Junior Club Championships will be held on Sunday October 15...with all HRTC Juniors encouraged to come along and have a go. HRTC Handicap Mixed Doubles 2016 Sunday October 16

We have BIG plans for our mixed doubles this year and hope to recruit ALL our HRTC ladies for what should be a terrific day. Two groups of round robin handicap doubles, a lunch in the middle of the day for both groups and a great prize at the end of the day. Players may sort out their own partners - or simply call the Club to have one arranged for you. The day will cater for players of all standards and should be loads of fun. Barry Toates Gala Dinner Saturday November 12

Numbers for the Barry Toates Gala Dinner are filling fast and with just over a month to go, members yet to sign up for the event are urged to do so ASAP. This dinner replaces the Club's Annual Dinner and as a farewell to Barry, is a not to be missed event. A sign up sheet and all the information is displayed in the Club rooms - otherwise call Brett or Pat at the Club to join in the fun.

The Toates Classic Doubles (a handicap doubles event) will be running in conjunction with the dinner and members wishing to participate may select from one of the three groups on offer over the course of the weekend. Once again, a sign up sheet for the event is displayed in the Club rooms - or call the Club to express an interest.
