Great Ormond Street Hospital
|
|
|
|
Everybody knows of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Quite simply, it's the best place to be if you're not very big and not very well. From its humble beginnings in 1852 in a 17th century townhouse, it is now one of the world's best and most respected children's hospitals.
During its 164-year history, hundreds of thousands of young people have received the very best in nursing and medical care, and our Office Manager, Lindsey, can testify to this. She says: 'Our first visit to GOSH was in 1994 with our son who has cerebral palsy. Over the following few years the medical care and expertise he received changed the path and quality of his life… the supportive care we received as a family was immense.'
Funding such extraordinary care requires an extraordinary amount of money, so for our 2016 Christmas Appeal we have teamed up with Uni to support this great British institution. It's very simple: Uni will donate 10p to GOSH for every Uni pen that we sell between 1st November and 24th December - and so will we. They offer a great range of pens, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a Uni-ball pen that's perfect. And if you'd like to donate more, you can, by clicking here. You can also learn a bit more about the Charity on our blog.
All help is appreciated. So buy a pen and help Great Ormond Street Hospital continue to do what it does best: put 'the child first and always'.

Fountain Pen Day is a day to embrace, promote and share the use of fountain pens. It's on the first Friday each November, which makes it November the 4th this year. It's a good excuse to talk about fountain pens, either in person, or on social media (with the hashtag #fountainpenday).
This year, we have a fantastic selection of fountain pen offers, so if you're already a fan of fountain pens, it's a great chance to add to your collection. If you don't use fountain pens, we have some perfect starter pens if you want to give it a go!

We've teamed up with Cross to give any Cross fans the chance to win a Cross Townsend fountain pen worth £225!
You'll need to be on Facebook, and to have a Cross pen, because Cross want to see a photo of you with your favourite Cross pen, or of your Cross pen in use. For more, and to enter, see the Facebook post here!

Get a free pack of Kaweco ink cartridges with any Kaweco fountain pen!
Kaweco are probably best known for the Sport - the pen that's small in the pocket, but big in the hand. The tiny Liliput is a wonderful example of cutting things down to the very basics, with a fantastic choice of finishes and metals. They have many other quality pens, though, at a wide range of prices.

The Pilot MR is a relatively new pen, but quickly became a favourite among fountain pen fans around the world. It's simple, but with nice elegant styling, and Pilot nibs are always good. The Retro Pop models add bright retro-style colours and patterned rings to the more understated standard pens.
And now, we're adding a Clairefontaine notebook to the Retro Pop! The notebooks have some retro chic about them, too, and Clairefontaine's renowned fountain pen-friendly paper.

|
Well, we couldn't miss out on Fountain Pen Day ourselves, could we?
Our own Cult Pens Mini fountain pen, made in conjunction with Kaweco, has been very well-received. There are two different finishes available now - black and grey - and you can get a pack of our own Deep Dark ink cartridges, made by Diamine, free when you buy one!

Conklin is a historic American brand. They go back far enough to have been endorsed by Mark Twain, and still have models bearing his name. Along with some beautiful materials, some of their pens have unusual filling systems, with crescent and button fillers available alongside the more common cartridge/converter filling systems. And for ink to fill them with? Well, now you'll get a free 30ml bottle of Monteverde ink when you buy any Conklin fountain pen!
|
|
|
And anyone with a fountain pen needs ink. Diamine's shimmering inks, with particles of gold and silver, have been hugely popular since they arrived, and they're about to get better. They're adding another ten colour combinations, including some beautiful ones. You can see the new colours, and request notification when they're available, which will be on Fountain Pen Day itself - the 4th of November!
And while the offer isn't limited to fountain pens, if you buy any Staedtler Premium Initium writing instrument, you can get an A5 leather Atoma notebook (normally £49.99) free!.
...and if none of those are quite what you're looking for, we have lots more fountain pens! We have most of the best-known brands, along with quite a few you may not have heard of before, like LOCLEN, Cleo Skribent, Schneider, and Karas Kustoms; and some of the best Japanese pens from brands like Pilot, Platinum and Sailor. Oh, speaking of Platinum, we do have just one more thing...

Some people are just too heavy-handed to get on with a mechanical pencil, and find the lead snaps all the time. Most others have to hold back a little in their more energetic scribblings. Zebra have the answer!
The DelGuard has a double lead-protection system to prevent breakage from too much force.
- The whole lead-feeding mechanism is held between springs, allowing it to move back when you press down too hard, saving the lead.
- A cleverly-designed system holds the lead support tube on another spring, which makes it jump forward to protect the lead when you apply pressure sideways.
These two systems make sure the lead is held and protected even when you're being rough with it, whatever angle you hold the pencil at.
If that sounds like it would be useful to you, now's the time to try it - we're offering the DelGuard at 25% off the RRP! It's usually £5.99 but you can have it for only £4.49 at the moment.

The Jotzone journal from Cross is a great way of keeping your notes, jottings and lists close to hand. It has a sturdy cover, an elastic closure and a ribbon to mark your place. Each page has a greyed corner - the 'Jotzone' - for indexing page content, and a handy refillable pen tucked into the spine completes the package. Best of all, though, is that it's free when you spend £50 on Cross!

A great value set of Uni's quality 888 coloured pencils. It's not often you can get 36 pencils of this standard for just £25.
While they're mainly known in the UK for their gel and liquid-ink rollerball pens, and some top-quality ballpoints, in Japan, the company behind Uni is just as well known for their pencils. They are, after all, the Mitsubishi Pencil Company.

Our Customer Service Spaniel Herbie was 5 at the end of October. A good excuse for a cute puppy pic. Life was exciting and full of possibilities for a young spaniel. Scroll forward 5 years and we find him half-asleep under a table enduring yet another meeting about pens. Happy Birthday Herbs.

Win some Derwent Graphik Line Painters
|
|
|
We love Derwent's Graphik Line Painters! Not only do they come in an unusual-shaped box, which looks great on any desk and opens out to enable handy pen-picking, the surrounding sleeve offers a comprehensive guide on how to use them. There's also a useful video: Introducing Derwent Graphik Line Painter Pens. OK, that's all very well, but what are they?

Paint in a pen, basically, but with an extra-fine, 0.5mm tip. Whilst still wet, the paint is water-soluble, so you can blend it, splat it and mix it; once dry it's waterproof and permanent on porous surfaces. And you don't just get your usual blues, greens and reds and so on - you have the pleasure of such colours as Tickled (pink, of course), Rain (yes, purple) and Clockwork (orange!) And there's also Billy, which is a dark sea-green. Not entirely sure why it's called Billy, a dark orange is Tom, or why a pale grey is called Jungle; but if you'd like to offer some suggestions, we'll put you into a draw to win a box of all 20 colours. Email sales@cultpens.com (or reply to this newsletter) with your suggestions by 25th November…

We've gone a bit mad this month - three competitions! For this one, we have six beautiful snow globes to give away. Spend £100 on Platinum from now until 16th December and we'll automatically put you into the draw to win one of them.
The Platinum #3776 Great Lakes series of limited edition fountain pens, celebrating the five lakes around Mt Fuji, is now all sold out. In this very special snowglobe, models of each of the five pens are arranged around a model of Mt Fuji, in a swirl of snow, glitter, and little golden Platinum logos.

Oh dear, we appear to have completely lost our minds. Now we have a fourth competition... And you'd be forgiven for thinking we're trying to give away a family member. But no, the Big Brother has nothing to do with relatives, George Orwell's 1984 or reality TV. It is, in fact, an ENORMOUS Kaweco fountain pen, the sort the BFG might appreciate. You can't actually use it to write with, but you could hang it from the ceiling, or feature it as a particularly unique form of wall art. So if you'd like it, all you have to do is email sales@cultpens.com (or just reply to this newsletter) by 16th December and tell us how long you think it is. We've kindly included Herbie in the photo to give you at least an idea of its size.
