Welcome to the November issue of Your Community, Your Planet! It's been an exceptionally dry Autumn - piles of crisp leaves everywhere - perfect for cycling, gardening and cleanups.

Our projects and services...

WH Malcolm appeal update: the latest DPEA update states that a report will be presented to Ministers for their consideration.  UK Without Incineration Network (UKWIN) have published a briefing entitled “Gasification Failures in the UK: Bankruptcies and Abandonment” highlighting how risky an investment these technologies have proved to be.

And the winners are: Two lucky winners came along to collect their prizes - Brian won the £20 voucher from our eNews survey and Raymond is the happy owner of a re-used bike from De'ils on Wheels. Congratulations to both!

Join the Gardening Team: We are hosting a six week volunteer session at the Kingsway Court Community Gardens every Thursday until 1 December. Sessions run from 10am to 1pm and lunch will be provided.

St Paul's growing their own at Kingsway Garden: Pupils from St Paul’s Primary in Whiteinch recently popped back along to the Kingsway garden to harvest the vegetables they planted earlier in the year.

Workshop makeover: After the busiest ever summer our staff and volunteers dedicated a week to giving it a big makeover. We have had great feedback from the volunteers and customers and we celebrated with some tea and cake!

Green Gym: The West Glasgow Green Gym will be at the following areas each Wednesday

  • 23 Nov – Kelvin Walkway Kelvinbridge to Belmont St
  • 30 Nov – Nature Trail, Jordanhill
  • 7, 14 Dec - Yoker Allotments
Scotstoun Clean Up: Scotstoun Community Council are holding a Community clean up - meeting point is Cafe Taste, 1515 Dumbarton Road, G14 9XQ on Sat 19 Nov at 10am.

Petition to save the No 4/4A bus route: over 3,000 people have signed the petition and there have been some recent updates posted on the petition online page.

Road Safety Week 2016: This year's Road Safety Week will focus on the six elements of the Brake Pledge: Slow, Sober, Secure, Silent, Sharp and Sustainable.

Petition to save Broomhill Avenue Greenspace: This green space is under threat from development and the Friends of Broomhill Avenue Greenspace have set up a petition.

Partick West Decides community budgeting event: The Partick West Area Partnership are holding a second Community Budgeting event on Fri 25 Nov. People are encouraged to come along and help decide whioch projects will get funding.

Walkable Communities workshop: Living Streets Scotland is hosting a free half-day workshop in Glasgow on Thu 17 Nov at the Albany Centre.

European Week for Waste Reduction 2016: The theme of this year's week running from Sat 19 to Sun 27 Nov is ‘Use-less Packaging’

Walk Cycle Vote training day: We Walk, We Cycle, We Vote campaign is organising a training day in Edinburgh on Sat 26 Nov and it’s FREE.

Our Great Start Kingsway residents event: Our Great Start Kingsway are organising an event for all residents of Kingsway Court to come along and share their views and find out about services and activities in their community  from 12.30-2pm on Thu 24 Nov at Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre.

Heart of Scotstoun medal walking routes: Recently launched by The Greener Scotstoun project from the Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre walking hub, the Medal Routes are three local walks of differing lengths - and have been created to make it easier for you to go for a walk!

Victoria Park community placemaking event: Glasgow City Council are hosting an event to bring local groups together to develop a shared vision for the development of Victoria Park in Scotstoun Stadium on Mon 28 Nov at 5.30pm. 

Go Bike AGM and public meeting: Go Bike are holding their AGM and a public meeting on Wed 23 Nov at 7:30pm in the Admiral Bar in Waterloo Street.

New 'How to...' participatory budgeting guide published: Whilst there is already a lot of information available on PB, this guide lays out a simple 10 step process for PB grant making

National Library of Scotland at the refurbished Kelvin Hall: In September the National Library of Scotland opened its doors in the west of Scotland for the first time.

New Clyde bridge crossing update: The plans for a new opening bridge across the River Clyde from Renfrew to Clydebank have moved forward with the publication of a detailed scoping report. A series of public engagement events to update people on projects are being held in various locations from Mon 5 to Thu 8 Dec.

Thousands get School Clothing Grant bonus: The first steps in Glasgow's new anti-poverty campaign - People Make Glasgow Fairer - involves targeting low income families who have not yet claimed the School Clothing Grant to help with buying  school uniforms.

Clyde Marine Planning Partnership update: The recently formed Clyde Marine Planning Partnership is working to create a Regional Marine Plan for the Firth of Clyde.

Glasgow Schools closing attainment gap: A new partnership between Glasgow City Council and Edinburgh based social enterprise Sumdog has been announced with the aim of achieving a step change in pupils' proficiency in maths and numeracy.
