For a whole week Didi de Mildt and I were so lucky as to make a fieldtrip to Yale and NYU and meet our colleagues in the Chaplaincy offices. It was inspiring and we learned more than we could ever cram into a few lines. But what surely struck me a lot on Yale campus, was the total absence of anything related to the presidential elections ... No posters, banners or T-shirts , no rallies or debates…nothing! What was visible were the notices all over campus urging the students to get their free flue-shot. Strange! After all Hillary and Bill are both alumni of Yale - they met right there in the library. On Sunday one of the chaplains expressed the general mood in his sermon: “we are tired, we are disgusted by this election..” What followed was a message against hopelessness and indifference. An encouragement to first seek justice in your own heart and then figure out how to play your part… It was also an encouragement to continue having ‘meaningful conversations’ with each other. Good advice – we all need that! Therefore for us in Wageningen, I recommend our own meaningful conversations going on in Spirit, Wetenschap & Religie as well as the Training for Happiness. For quiet and technology-free-time check out Meditation in Orion and the Taizé prayer…
For a free flue-shot you have to be 60+ in the Netherlands, but if you want to learn what to do when you get the flue... check out the Global Meal ! All are welcome!
