“The Bible Presumes Your Intelligence.”

This is the basis for biblical scholar John Dominic Crossan’s video Bible study Violence Divine: Overcoming the Bible’s Portrayal of Its Non-Violent God. It’s a fascinating exploration of Biblical origins, and it seeks to answer the question “Why does the Bible contain so much violence?” All are always invited to this video study and discussion with Rev. Craig on Mondays from 1 to 2:15 in the New Room, near the church office. Come to one or any number of the discussions, which will conclude on November 7. Come by anytime

Veteran’s Day Offering

Nov. 13, 2016 - St. Mark’s will take a special Veteran’s Day offering to support a project that began in San Diego and has received national attention, National Stand Down.  Stand Down is an intervention that was conceived from the ground up specifically for veterans, by veterans.  For more information go to:  http://www.vvsd.net/standdown.htm.

The Journey, Walking the Road to Bethlehem

Do you enjoy coffee time at church?

Coffee time is a wonderful time to gather and fellowship after church.  St. Mark’s provides the coffee and condiments and volunteers provide the service.  There is a need for coffee servers during October, November and December.  There are many benefits to serving coffee on Sunday mornings.  Not only is it fun but you get to meet and greet people as you serve.  If you would like to get more information about this opportunity, please contact Sandi Johnson at 858-278-8833 or you can sign up in the church office.

Oktoberfest Pretzels Are Here!

Come try San Diego Pretzel Company pretzels and place your pretzel order on the patio this Sunday! Proceeds will help our youth purchase an automatic door opener for the front office.

Please Let Us Know!

Picture-taking and video recording are frequently done during church events.  Some of those pictures may be published in our church publications, slideshows, on our website, or on our social media pages. If you do not wish to have your picture published, please let an usher know, or contact the church office by phone or email.

Honoring Keils Grocery Store

Keils, long-time neighborhood grocery store, will be closing at the end of the month. Many of the employees live in our Clairemont community. Over the years Keils has generously extended support to local fundraisers and offered tours for elementary students. Keils provided a walkable destination for shoppings living in Sorrento Towers, a rent-controlled apartment building for seniors and those with disabilities. Let's show the Keils employees our gratitude for being such a wonderful neighborhood store for the past two decades. Please sign the banner on the patio after church this Sunday.

Christmas Programs

The Community Christian Service Agency will be registering approximately 200 low-income families for their Christmas Gift Basket Program this year.  This is a wonderful opportunity for church groups as well as individual families to bring a little Christmas cheer to families in need.  CCSA is currently seeking sponsors for these families.  They are also putting together Gift Bags for the homeless population and an “Extra Food Basket” program as well.  Sign-up sheets and details can be found on the CCSA website, www.ccsasandiego.org, for all three programs.

Sermon Video Now Available

Video of each week’s Sunday sermon is now available via our website: stmarksumcsd.org/sermons or our YouTube channel: stmarksumcsd.org/youtube.
