Waitsfield Elementary School Rocks!

October 27, 2016
5th and 6th graders with the robots they've been building in their science class.

Dear Friends and Families,
While I've heard a range of reactions to last weekend's snow, the weather did bring to the forefront thoughts of winter. Perhaps, like me, it sent you scurrying to the closet to see if your children's winter gear still fits. I discovered I will definitely need to do some shopping at this year's Ski & Skate sale (Nov. 12 & 13th).  Pre-registration  will start November 7th: I've got a box of items for which I'll be needing tags. Whether it is to shop, sell or volunteer (or all three!), please mark your calendars with the dates and times for this awesome annual event.
Saturday evening's snow also got me thinking about how weather impacts events and transportation (especially as I didn't have my snow tires on yet!)  A message from Superintendent Nease regarding our school cancellation and delay practices. We continue to use the Blackboard Connect automated system to send phone calls and emails to all families regarding cancellation and delays. Please insure we have your correct phone and email to insure you get this notification. Additionally, this information is listed on local television and radio stations. In general, afterschool programming runs if school is in session (please see afterschool program handbook for their cancellation policy.
I look forward to seeing you all at family conferences next week (Weds Nov. 2 Thurs Nov. 3, 2:30- 7 p.m.)  While kindergarten - 6th grade children are expected to attend conferences with their family, there is childcare available for siblings and if you'd like a few moments alone with your child's teacher.
Respectfully,
Kaiya

Have you signed up to work the Ski & Skate sale yet? Did you know that volunteers get to shop EARLY (before everyone else- 7:30 - 8:30!) on the day of the sale? And working the sale is actually fun?
We still have many empty spots (approximately 60% filled thus far); this is our ONE fundraiser of the year-- and we need everyone (and their neighbors and friends!) to pitch in to make it happen. You can sign up in the lobby or online.
