Dear Parents, Guardians, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of Assumption-St. Bridget School,
This week there is time set aside for fall parent-teacher-student conferences.  Thank you to those of you who have already set up times and/or had your conference already.  This time is valuable and most of the ASB conferences are set up to be student led.  Your child(ren) has taken time to set goals and make a plan that they are ready to share with you and the teacher, get input, and roles for support to see the plan through.  We look forward to seeing all of you there!  This strong home/school partnership is one strong attribute of our school that we want to take time to nurture.  Remember to take time to check the parent information on the new MAP assessment located on our website.
On November 3,  ASB will be hosting Mr. Mike Sissel from Kaleidoeye, Lenses of Leadership.  Mike brings years of experience in coaching young people, educators and parents in building a growth mindset and their own leadership skills.  Mr. Sissel will meet with all students in classrooms on November 3 and meet with our entire faculty and staff.  He has also offered to meet with parents for an education night, and I am working with Parent Board to schedule that later this year.  Here is a recent video that he passed on to me in regards to building a growth mindset.  It is not his video, but one he uses with the students and clients he works with.  Enjoy!
Thanks to the many parents who park away from the campus and walk in to drop off or pick up their child(ren).  This helps with our constant traffic back up at these times.  More help is needed!  As part of our preparation for new construction, we will be working with the City of Seattle on a full updated traffic study.  With start times of neighboring schools changing, the local traffic has been impacted.  Our Parent Board is also working with Pogo, which supports helping businesses and schools to create carpool systems that readily communicate and link up with their handy app.  We will keep you posted on this progress.  Your continued safe and respectful driving,  following of the traffic flow, and parking away and walking to campus are most appreciated.
Grandparents’ Day is right around the corner on November 23 right before Thanksgiving holiday.  Please take time to fill out the electronic information form to insure that all ASB Grandparents and Grandfriends get an invite!  This is a very special day on campus and we love having all of our grandparents/friends here to enjoy the spirit and tradition of ASB!
This weekend is the Parent Board-hosted Halloween Carnival on Sunday, October 30 from 4-7 p.m.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend this fun community-building event!  Costumes, treats, beverages and games add to the festive mood.  This year’s carnival is at St. Bridget Parish.  Come and kick off the Halloween celebration will your ASB community!
Last but certainly not least, huge congratulations to all of our student athletes and coaches who participated in CYO cross-country season!    ASB earned the overall school champion status, with our 8th grade boys winning their individual grade championship.  Well done by all!

In Christ's peace,
Christina Vierra McGill

Accreditation Parent Survey

As noted at Curriculum Night, ASB School is currently engaged in a year-long a self study to assess the quality of our school. As part of the process, we are asking parents to provide feedback on a variety of topics. Please participate by taking this survey. So far, more than 140 surveys have been completed; that is a good response, but we would like to have as many families as possible complete a survey. Your input is critical as we create an accurate picture of our community. Contact Jeff Pozarski if you have difficulty with the Survey Monkey link. Thank you!

Basketball News:
We have finished our basketball assessments and I am very proud of all the boys and girls who participated.  It was great to witness all of the cheering and encouragement that each player offered to classmates and as I stated last week, it was great to hear the squeak of basketball shoes on our new gym floor.  I would like to remind all parents and students that regardless of team placements, our program is about competing to our students’ best abilities, learning to develop new skills, and most importantly, having the opportunity to experience teamwork and have fun with friends and teammates.  Our placements are made with the best intentions of getting each student optimal playing time and the very best experience.

Donald Watts, of Watts Basketball (who conducted our ASB Basketball assessments) would like to alert all ASB families to some potential opportunities and camps for your children.  The camp held this Friday, October 28th is being held specifically for ASB students!  Thank you Donald Watts.
