Earliest Spring Colors!

Before the bold daffodils and tulips raise their colorful heads, crocuses, snowdrops, and other early spring bloomers are the welcoming harbinger of things to come. Two I love span both ends of the spectrum: Iris reticulata and Hellebores. 

Iris reticulata (photo above right) are small, 6" tall ephemerals, whose blooms last just a day or two, yet are sweet little gems. I dare you not to smile when you see one!

Hellebores (photo above) are also stunning early bloomers. These evergreen perennials are great winter accents and they bloom clusters of flowers from late February all the way through May. Their flowers colors range from subtle greens to yellows, pinks, purples, whites and almost black. And they are deer-resistant! What’s not to love?
