Now live on Kickstarter!
Just in time for Christmas 2016 - I've painted a set of four holiday cards inspired by The King in Yellow, a cursed play at the heart of a series of stories by 19th century writer Robert W. Chambers. Author H.P. Lovecraft read the collected stories around 1927. When he later created the Necronomicon and other books that destroy the reader in the libraries of the C'thulhu Mythos, he wrote in the tradition of The King in Yellow.
The mysterious, soul-destroying play is only mentioned obliquely in Chamber's stories, the substance and trimmings of the script being left to the reader's imagination. Chambers was a great borrower as a writer, so I've looked for elements in the stories that draw on other writers' work, and on artistic themes of the day to visualize the world within the play of the King in Yellow.
Want to know more about The King in Yellow project? I blog about my inspirations and process on my new site, www.artofheatherhudson.com. On any of my social media platforms, I've tagged posts related to the project #kiyxmas. Between last tweaks to the art and the adventure of the campaign itself, I expect to find a lot to write in the next few weeks.
The King in Yellow Christmas Card Campaign fully funded in the first 24 hours. The cards are definitely happening, and new stretch goals and reward levels will be announced soon!
P.S. - Thanks and hugs to the readers here who gave me feedback on our ideas for this project after my last newsletter. It was a big help in deciding what to paint this year. I hope you like my work!
