WELCOME TO THE OCTOBER 2016 PCACE PROJECT NEWS

The PCACE Project News will help to build awareness of the PCACE Project and will explain how this online evidence base for palliative care in aged care is being developed by CareSearch.

PROJECT UPDATE: WHAT WILL THE GUIDANCE COVER

There are many different topics that need to be considered when providing comprehensive guidance for the many different groups providing palliative care to older Australians in residential aged care and in the community. Guidance needs to reflect what is known from the evidence on a range of issues from symptoms and care planning to family and carer needs and service and system considerations. The potential list of topics has been developed following an analysis of what was covered in the APRAC and COMAPC guidelines and from topics suggested in consultation with the community and from an environmental scan of current projects and activities. The final set of topics and their structure will be determined by the Expert Advisory Group and reviewed by the National Advisory Group. This process helps ensure that the guidance is comprehensive and relevant.
In future newsletters we will explain the quality appraisal processes being used to ensure the evidence base is solid and the mechanisms we are putting in place to update the guidance as new evidence is released. We will also report on our work in identifying practice resources and current projects supporting end of life and palliative care for older Australians.

You can get involved by:
  • suggesting tools, resources or projects that you think should be included in the online guidance,
  • reviewing content and pages or by joining in user testing activity, and
  • promoting the PCACE Project to friends and colleagues.
