Upcoming events and workshops for Ryokan Gojyuan

What's Happening at Gojyuan in December 2016

Dear <<First Name>>

It is a beautiful time of year here at Gojyuan. The garden is lush and the bamboo is lovely to watch calmly swaying in the summer breeze.

We have recently returned from a family holiday in Vanuatu where we attended our daughter's wedding. It was a relaxed and intimate day spent with close friends and loved ones. Hannah looked absolutely stunning. We are so happy for her and Toby and wish them a long and happy life together.

In late October we were privileged to host the signing of the contract between Ito En and the winners of the NRL Premiership, the Cronulla Sharks. The event also made it to Channel 10 news.

The annual Japanese School Fete was very successful. Chihiro Kownacki's Temari and Yoshie Kumagai's Mizuhiki necklaces and Christmas decorations were popular and sold out quickly. Lots of delicious food and fun games.

Our friends from Fukushima will be in Sydney again in December and we will be hosting a pottery event at Gojyuan on Saturday 17th December from 2:30pm until 5:30pm. Please keep this time free and join us where you will be able to purchase beautiful Oborisoma Pottery. There will also be a tea ceremony demonstration and lucky door prize.

Keep Saturday the 10th December available for the annual Matsuri event held at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour. The event is on from 11am-7pm and is free to attend. Please come enjoy all things Japanese.

There are only 5 workshops left for 2016. Please be quick to make those special presents for Christmas.

Midori Furze will be holding her last Origami Workshop this Saturday 3rd December, 2016.

Christmas cards and wreath were the theme for Yoshie Kumagai's last Gift Wrapping workshop. She is presenting her next Furoshiki Workshop on Sunday 4th December.

Chihiro Kownacki will be presenting her next Temari workshop on Friday the 9th December. The theme for this workshop is Christmas Ornaments to decorate your Christmas tree with a Japanese twist.

Ren Yano will be holding his monthly Calligraphy Workshop and Stamp Making workshops on Sunday the 11th December.

Our workshops for next year are now on our website. We look forward to seeing you being very creative at Gojyuan.

We are very pleased to announce two new projects for Gojyuan in 2017. We will be including a pampering service from Monday to Friday which will include a Hinoki bath experience, Japanese tea and a facial and massage. Gift vouchers will be available for these new services. Details will be updated on our website over the next few weeks.

We will also be trialling an online shop that will promote our presenter's products as well as items from Japan that are associated with our business. These include Japanese ceramics ( tableware and teaware ), tea ( matcha ) and craft products ( washi, furoshiki ). As we always buy new items during our annual trip to Japan, it will also be an opportunity to sell some of my dishes that are no longer in use.

in 2017, there wiill be some exhibitions happening at Gojyuan. We are in discussion with a washi manufacturer from Japan and hope to have some exciting workshops as well. Our dear friends from Mihara will be exhibiting their ceramics in the latter part of the year.

Murray Giles is organising 2 custom tours of Japan in March and April 2017. The first is from 11th March - 26th March and will feature the fabric and txtiles of Japan. The second is from the 4th April - 22nd April and will be expoloring the northern regions of Japan. There are only a few vacancies left and you can reach him at murray_giles@bigpond.com.

We hope you have a lovely Christmas and New Year surrounded by friends and family and look forward to seeing you at Ryokan Gojyuan in 2017.

Kind Regards

Linda & Steve Evans
