News from Outré - HIEMSTRA, KEHOE, HARDIE & PERTH group exhibitions opening FRIDAY, prints galore inc new kozyndan and Derek Yaniger Beatles!
Outre News #266

"Oblige Me" an exhibition of new paintings and prints by Femke Hiemstra opens this Friday night at 6pm at Outré Melbourne with her inaugural showing of her original artworks in Australia.

Dutch illustrator and pop surrealist artist Femke Hiemstra will be premiering her fantastical, Grimm-esque scenes of highly detailed animal characters set against dark surreal settings. The artist creates ‘otherworldly folklore’ paintings and drawings involving characters, in animals, and Flora & Fauna transfixed between the realms of fantasy and reality. The creatures in her work embody human behaviour displaying the same glorious highs or weighted shortcomings. Hiemstra's wonderfully meticulous, tiny jewel box like paintings need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Outré is excited to be offering fans this chance.

Enter the magical, whimsical world of Andy Kehoe, a surrealist painter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his exhibition "Waking Unreality" at Outré Gallery. His work embodies nostalgic childhood fairytales and fantasies, intertwined with adult nightmares of dark emotions running rampant in the mind. He paints scenes involving quirky, anthropomorphic characters meeting in eerie forests with disarmingly soft and hugely oversized creatures.

We're proud to present Andy's inaugural Australian showing of original artworks together with an extensive selection of the artist's print editions. The exhibition affords fans the opportunity to view the artist's originals in person - which need s to be done in person to fully appreciate the detail and depth created between different layers of resin.

Melbourne based artist Lucy Hardie, creates meticulously fine lined drawings and paintings of otherworldly, fantasy based works, tapping into the spiritual world outside our common reality. Hardie works out of a studio at Abbotsford convent in Melbourne, her work draws on inspirations from the old masters, encompassing different techniques she learnt from her father’s art books including a combination of egg tempera, resin and oils. Inspired by her great grandmother whom was a medium, her creations conjure elements of life and death, present and past, in a bid to find what connects us.

Lucy is premiering new work which expands on themes of light and dark, life and death, and the continuum between the two, for the next Small Wall project show, at Outre Gallery on October 21. The show is a series of ink drawings and each piece has taken up to 200 hours to complete. Lucy’s intention for the show is, “to provide the viewers a small, but magical, wonder - full experience.”
