Welcome!

September is behind us and we find ourselves deep into October. While we turn our thoughts to warm fireplaces, ghosts and critters are preparing for their night. The Fall is a time of magic and wonder, when the bumps in the night seem a little too close. Why not burrow deep into a protective fort of blankets and spend some time with a scary book. After, of course, you catch up with the Calm Scribe news, thank you for your continued support.

NaNoWriMo 2016 is here! November is National Novel Writing Month, the month where writers from all around the world and of all skill levels site down, promise each other we will write 50, 000 (a new novel), and help and support each other along the way. It is an exciting challenge and helps out a lot of wonderful charities. For more information please visit their site at www.nanowrimo.org.

My submission this year is The Extinction Protocol. It promises to be a very intriguing read, follow the link for the synopsis, you won't be disappointed.

The Extinction Protocol

Results

While the results are not yet in from round two of the NYC Midnight Flash Fiction Challenge, my submission is. The Flash Fiction Challenge entails a writer creating a full story of no more than 1000 words in 48 hours with a specific location, genre, and an object. The writers are placed into groups of 35 and only the top 15 stories receive points. The top 5 writers from each group at the end of two rounds will move on to round three.

For round two I was given a fundraiser as a location, a doctored photograph as an object, and horror as a genre. I created the short story titled "Deaf Ears". It can be found on my website on the Flash Fiction page, check the site on November 2 for the round two results.

Project Persyphious

This story is a thriller with a sub-genre of horror. I have been having a lot of fun writing it, but be warned this one is scary. It is available on Channillo.com. As some of you may know it is being released as a serial, one chapter per month, although there is chatter of changing it to every two weeks. In the meantime, chapter 3 is available now.

Loose Ends

One of the stories from All That is Left Behind has been submitted for a short story contest, so that book will be delayed slightly. It is an exciting story, which I hope will do well with the judges. It is called The Truth Will Set You Free. Look for more details in the December newsletter.

Keep checking the site under Writer's Thoughts, it is being updated more regularly now. If you like what you see, feel free to share on social media. Don't forget to follow me follow me on Scriggler and Litsy!
Recommendations of the month:

Website: Kiva.org
Kiva is a website that has been around for 10 years and has helped countless people in need all around the world. It is a microfinance site which allows people to each pitch in a little, to help a lot. I personally use this site, however it is up to you if you decided to as well. The Calm Scribe holds no liability explicit or implied if you decide to use the Kiva program. This is provided for informational purposes only, as an example of what others are doing to help their fellow humans.

Book: Go Ask Alice
I decided to use this book, because of the opioid issues that are beginning to arise in our country. It is a very humbling and sobering read, even if you have already read it, it is worth reading again.

App: Habitify
Habitify is a great app for the iPhone which allows the user to create new habits. Each time you mark them off as complete you get water tokens. When you reach 300 tokens a donation is made to help give clean water to those in need. It is a great way to get a new healthy habit and help others at the same time!

That is it for this month's newsletter, thank you for your continued support.
