Ironman World Championship 2016 Wrap Up

Ironman week was awesome. We filmed 56 Breakfast with Bob interviews: 47 pre-race interviews and 9 post-race interviews for our Championship Edition. Enjoy a few of my favorites from the week, featured here.

You can watch all the interviews on our Babbittville YouTube channel, on Babbittville.com, or on TriathlonWorld.com

Can't wait to do it all again next year! Already counting down the days to October 14, 2017!

Daniela Ryf had, in her words, "a perfect day" at the Ironman World Championship on October 8th, winning her second world title in a row. In our pre-race interview, it was revealing to hear Daniela talk about how her 4th place performance at the 70.3 World Championship in September was a wake up call. What was her mindset going into the biggest race of the year, and how did she feel about her performance after it was all said and done? Get some great insight into the mind of a champion by watching her pre-race and post-race interviews.

Germany's Patrick Lange announced his presence with authority at this year's Ironman World Championship. He backed up his win at Ironman Texas earlier this year with a 3rd place finish in his debut in Kona, and he put his name in the history books by breaking the marathon run record that had been held by Mark Allen since 1989 with a blistering 2:39:45. You definitely want to get to know Patrick Lange....he is very special!

Coach Jim Vance joined us on Breakfast with Bob for a fascinating analysis of the run performances of the top pros at the Ironman World Championship. Jim reinforces the importance of pacing the run smartly, and shares data that illustrates who does this best.

This year in Kona, we were introduced to the incredible father-son team of Jeff and Johnny Agar. Johnny was born with cerebral palsy, and they are following in the footsteps of Dick and Rick Hoyt, completing races together. Jeff pulls Johnny in a boat for the swim, in a trailer for the bike, and pushes him in a jogger for the run. Unfortunately, the harsh Big Island conditions got the best of them this year, but they will be back! Get to know Jeff and Johnny in this fun interview we did with them before they took on the Ironman in Kona.

Did you know you can qualify for the Boston Marathon at the Ironman World Championship? This year, 232 triathletes ran qualifying times in the brutal conditions of Kona AFTER swimming 2.4 miles and riding 112 miles.
