No one ever said a meeting had to be face-to-face and around a table. And a walking meeting doesn’t require exercise clothing either – just shoes that are comfortable to walk in. They’re less awkward because you’re not sitting across from another person trying to decide just how much eye contact is appropriate. Ideas flow more freely because you’re moving your body. And they have a clearly defined end point – i.e. when you are back where you started, the meeting is over.
My colleague Sam and I took this one step further recently. We stuck our headphones into our respective phones and did our monthly audio Skype hook-up while we walked. Sam from her home in NSW, me from mine in WA. It was awesome.
While you to ponder how to get more walking meetings into your days (after first deciding whether you need that meeting at all!) I’d like to welcome our latest Premium members, Amy Teale and Solis IP on board. Re-joining for another year are Brad Thomas, Calcul8ors Pty Ltd, Super Claims Australia and iGift Fruit Hampers.
So, have you pondered? Are you sold on the idea of walking meetings?
My friend Amanda does walking mastermind sessions too. Such a great idea – meeting minds while moving bodies. Now, that’s efficient!
