November 2016

Welcome to the November edition of the Allied Health Hub News. The newsletter aims to keep you in touch with what’s happening in palliative care and in the Allied Health Hub.

In this edition we have taken the opportunity to highlight CareSearch and two of the staff involved in the Allied Health Hub.
  • Jennifer Tieman: CareSearch Director and an Associate Professor in the Palliative and Supportive Services Discipline at Flinders University. She has been involved with a number of research studies and projects in palliative care, ehealth, and evidence use. In this newsletter Jennifer discusses ‘Allied Health, Palliative Care and CareSearch’. (103kb pdf)
  • Deb Rawlings: Research Fellow, Knowledge Network Project (CareSearch); Lecturer, Palliative and Supportive Services, Flinders University. In this profile Deb responds to questions in an interview by Pauline Cerdor regarding her work in palliative care through Flinders University. (495kb pdf)

As well as profiling Deb Rawlings in this edition, we also thought that it would be interesting to highlight two other CareSearch staff members who are involved with the AHH newsletter.

  • Natasha Tsoupas, Marketing and Promotions Coordinator, CareSearchAs the Marketing and Promotions Coordinator for CareSearch my role in the development of the Allied Health Hub Newsletter is around editing the content which is developed each month by our writers and ensuring that the branding/style is adhered to and consistent each month. We work hard to ensure that the newsletter follows a particular structure to allow the reader to have a consistent experience. In addition to this, following the release of the newsletter we will tweet to our twitter community around the release and what they can expect in this addition as well as promote the newsletter through LinkedIn.
(Natasha Tsoupas, Marketing and Promotions Coordinator, CareSearch)
  • Cameron Shepherd, Website Officer, CareSearchAs a project officer with the CareSearch project one of my tasks is to create and distribute pdf and email versions of all CareSearch newsletters. Original documents are edited then put on newsletter templates with attention to maintaining layout, as well as trying to make the newsletters meet accessibility standards for low vision users and for those using adaptive technologies. I also create and maintain all the CareSearch newsletter member databases, subscription forms, post new newsletters on the CareSearch website and report on distribution statistics.

PRINCIPLES UNDERLYING THE CARESEARCH WEBSITE

The following is taken directly from the CareSearch website.

A series of concepts have driven the development of the CareSearch project:
  1. The role of evidence from creation to application, 'the knowledge translation cycle'
  2. The multidisciplinary nature of palliative care
  3. The concept of a palliative care community, that is, both those providing palliative care and those affected by the need for palliative care
  4. Granularity, or the idea of the size and scale of components and their relationships within a system, that enables users to find specific information and enter at different points within the website
  5. Quality processes to ensure trustworthiness and relevance of content
  6. Currency of information being supported by processes that enable information to be regularly updated
  7. Relationship between the print and web page so they can function independently as sources of information.
CareSearch is a work in progress that reflects the changing nature of palliative care needs and practice and the underlying evidence and literature base that supports clinical care and service delivery.
