Kia ora whānau,
There's 8 days and counting .......... until our School Fair next Saturday 5th November from 11am til 2pm. Now is the time to put everything aside to support our school and your children to ensure that our fair is the success it deserves to be! In March the Fair committee was formed and this small group have worked tirelessly to put on a fair to be proud of! Now we need you to sign up to help on a stall on the day, continue to donate grocery items, spread the word about the fair and bring your friends and whanau to what will be a great event! If you can help out please check out the sign up sheets in the office.
Many thanks to all people who have been involved so far ........... lets bring it home over the final week! Jakob's junior cutter class crew won this trophy for their sailing class at the Otago/Southland sea scouts Regatta at Cromwell on the weekend. Jakob was at the helm and picture attached, is of him receiving the trophy. Well done Jakob!

Room 3
Fair Preparation
We have been busily planning, designing and creating our first product to sell at our classroom stall. As part of this process the children had to design a poster for our stall as part of a competition. They then had to vote on their favourite design by placing a counter on top of one poster.

Next week we will go through the same process to create our second product to sell.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed being innovative and seeing the end results.
Art Gallery Visit
Room Three visited the Art Gallery on Wednesday. This was an extension of our mini unit that we studied for flight. We were shown art works around the Gallery to start, and discussed the importance of symmetry for both planes and birds to fly.
The children loved balancing plastic birds on top of their fingers and nose and learnt that in order for birds to fly and balance in the air, their wings need to be symmetrical, just like an aeroplane.
We were escorted up to the Art Room where we watched short clips about a magic flying carpet and a flying boat. The children then selected a picture of a bird of their choice, then had to paint it using a fine paint brush.
Next week we will go through the same process to create our second product to sell.

Saturday Morning Music Classes Open Morning
(Instrumental classes for children 5 years and upwards)
Parents and children wishing to commence classes in 2017 are invited to observe classes in progress on Saturday morning November 12th .
George St Normal School Centre: Groups will assemble inside the Main Block door and be guided around classes between 9 and 10:30am.
Bathgate Park School Centre: Groups will assemble in the foyer at 9:15 and 10:15am.
(Elmgrove School, Mosgiel Centre will be open on Wednesday 9th November between 3:30 and 4:30.)
Enrolments for 2017 will be accepted on Saturday 19th November.
- George St Normal School between 9 and 11:30 (follow the signs),

HELP SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE COASTLINES MOBILE PHONE APPEAL IN OUR SCHOOL
It would be great if you could rummage around in your drawers and toy boxes and bring into School any unwanted mobile phones you may have. Phones collected help our School gain valuable rewards and the environment benefits too by keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances. Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have in the collection box in the reception area at School.

What is the ANZ Olympic Schools Programme
ANZ has developed the ANZ Olympic Schools Programme with the New Zealand Olympic Committee to inspire and motivate New Zealand's youth, through the magic and celebration of the Olympic Games. Schools will be provided with resources and merchandise to provide opportunities, activities and incentives for students to live the Olympic Values.
In addition to the great resources schools can receive, ANZ has also tailored the programme so their staff can personally help schools earn credits to spend at the ANZ Awards Centre and also secure the chance to have an Olympic Ambassador visit the school.
ANZ staff will be encouraging people within their school communities to support their school and come to ANZ for their next home loan. For every home loan drawn down a school can earn credits to spend on items from the ANZ Awards Centre, items such as sports equipment or computers. As an example an eligible home loan drawn down by someone linked to your school to the value of $50k or more will entitle the school to 800 credits. 800 credits equates to approximately $400 of spending power at the ANZ Awards centre.

HOTSHOTS JUNIOR PLAYER, MODIFIED BALL, GAME BASED PLAY PILLARS OFFERED BY MORNINGTON ROSYLN TC ARE:
- Hot Shots Community Play
This is an introductory pathway for those interested in trying tennis for the first time for children aged 4 –12 years. Sessions are held at Mornington/Roslyn Tennis club courts at 11 Meadow Street, Mornington, on Thursdays from 5-5.50pm. The cost is gold coin only.
- Hot Shots Coaching
This is for professional coaching with Scott Base Tennis Coaching, using the Hotshots game based philosophy for any child aged 4-12. Held at the Edgar Sports Centre, each child is scheduled into the coaching timetable for a term of lessons during the week at a time that suits them. The cost is $75 per term.

- Hot Shots Match Play
For children aged 4 - 12 from either Community Play or Coaching programmes who are able to rally and are ready to learn to play matches. This is held at the Edgar Stadium on Thursdays from 4-5pm as part of the Scott Base Tennis Coaching programme. This includes an introduction to competitive play. Cost is $35 per term.

- Junior Competitive play
Players from the Green Ball competition graduate into playing interclub in the Otago Junior competition for the Mornington Roslyn Club. Games are held on Saturday mornings and the children are arranged into teams and put into grades that reflect their abilities. The cost is $125 per season as a Junior Interclub Membership for MRTC.
Juniors at this level can also play in tournaments in Otago and around NZ.
- Junior Representatives
Players from the Junior competitions and tournaments are also eligible for selection to play representative tennis for the Otago, Southern and NZ.
